Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Kristin Catlett and Nyna Nygaard have started In a Nutshell 605. The business makes flavored peanut and almond butters. The women have sold the products at pop-up events and plan to stock them on the shelves of other businesses. They are developing a website for online sales and hope to have a storefront someday.

Lloyd Cos. has started construction on the first phase of a major multifamily development at the Sanford Sports Complex. Atlas will begin with 64 apartment units, and the entire first phase could encompass 200 units. Long term, Lloyd envisions developing 400 to 600 units at different price points.

M.G. Oil has purchased OverTime Sports Grill & Bar. The Rapid City-based company plans to expand the business in a retail center near 26th Street and Sycamore Avenue, which it also now owns. It will add two video lottery casinos, which will free up space to add about 40 seats in the bar.

Chelsea’s Boutique is now Heritage Boutique, following its purchase by Emma Schulz last year from founder Chelsea Giedd. Downtown’s longest-running women’s boutique is at 220 S. Phillips Ave.

The Mason Jar Boutique has closed at The Bridges at 57th. The business, which was founded in 2014 and had been at the retail center since 2021, will continue to sell women’s clothing and accessories online.

Remedy Brewing Co. has added a live music venue to its west-central brewery and taproom. Remedy at 611 is hosting local and touring bands in a variety of genres. The space can hold up to 200 concertgoers, and Remedy is seeking city approval for construction plans to expand capacity.

Corduroy & Pixie Dust in Dell Rapids is closing its storefront this month and shifting to online sales. In addition to children’s apparel, accessories, books and toys, the business sells women’s clothing. It was founded in 2017. The online shop also will sell balloon and candy bouquets.

A franchised location of Kid to Kid has opened on the north side of the Western Mall. The business buys and resells used apparel, toys and accessories for children. The inventory includes about 10 percent new merchandise. It’s open daily.

Gibs Sports Bar & Grill has opened in the former Cherry Creek Grill building at 3104 E. 26th St. It’s the east-side version of the west-side Gateway Bar & Grill from owner Jack Rentschler Jr. The main floor has seating for 200 and is filled with TVs. The lower level, which opens at 5 p.m., has its own bar, pool tables and other games. It seats another 200. Gibs is open from 11 a.m. to 2 a.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

The Falls Park Farmers Market has started its season with more than 30 vendors. It’s open on the north end of Falls Park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through October.

Apparel retailer rue21 has filed for bankruptcy and plans to close all stores. The Sioux Falls store is near JCPenney in The Empire Mall.

Pedal cabs are back in downtown. Terry Grateful Liggins bought Sioux Falls Pedicabs almost a year ago but did not operate it last summer. He has renamed it We Care Pedal Care Service. The pedicabs will offer rides beginning at 4 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday and cater to brunch crowds on Sunday.

R Cross M Big Country BBQ & Catering has expanded to include a food truck. Owner Ronald Blackman has been smoking meat for years, catering events and even doing pop-up dinners when he lived along 26th Street in central Sioux Falls. He lives now in Tea. The food truck typically is open for lunch Wednesday through Friday at Ace Hardware in Tea and Saturday at I-29 Antiques.

With fresh seafood flown in twice a week, Pho Thai’s Sushi Bar has opened in downtown’s Shriver Square. Customers will find sushi, sashimi, salads, maki rolls and chef’s special rolls. Diners can order from the Pho Thai or Sushi Bar menus in the connected spaces. It’s open Monday through Saturday.

Halbach Szwarc Law Firm has moved into the second floor of a historic building that founder Alex Halbach is renovating at 100 S. Grange Ave. The first floor is the soon-to-be home of the new restaurant Perch.

The long-awaited Jacky’s Burrito Express has opened in the former Fuddruckers space. The new location at 3101 W. 41st St. serves breakfast, lunch and dinner daily.

Graco has transformed a former Wells Fargo operations center next to its existing manufacturing plant into production and office spaces. A new annex connects the two buildings on North Fourth Avenue.

Mississippi Smoke has added a food truck to its barbecue catering services. Owner Robert Dixon, a Mississippi native, has a full-time job, so he has a limited schedule for the food truck. Typically, he serves lunch every Friday from the parking lot at of Pfeifer Implement at 12th Street and Marion Road.

The west-side Sioux Falls Kohl’s will be adding a Babies R Us store-within-a-store. The store at 3800 S. Louise Ave. is among 200 locations nationwide that will receive the new shop later this year. Babies R Us had been part of the Toys R Us store in Sioux Falls that closed in 2018 after the company went bankrupt.

A new mobile business features mocktails and taps for weddings and other private and public gatherings. Dustin and Kacie Jones have started Mockies Mocktails & Taps. They have a trailer and a stand on wheels for the mocktails and a trailer that’s built out of the bed of a 1968 Chevy pickup that holds the taps for kegs.
