Brewery adds concert venue with potential for expansion

A brewery in west-central Sioux Falls has added a live-music venue to its offerings and is planning to expand it for larger concerts.

Remedy Brewing Co. started hosting local and touring bands at its large-scale production site and taproom at 611 N. West Ave. a few months ago.

“We want to be that place for up-and-coming bands that are about to hit it big,” Remedy co-founder Tyler Jepperson said of Remedy at 611.

Bands have ranged from hip-hop and punk to classic rock and hard rock. “We’ve had more relaxed, one-man band, funky band shows too,” he said, noting he wouldn’t mind hosting country shows. Promoter Corey Church of Nice Enough Entertainment books the acts. He’s based in Colorado but has Sioux Falls roots.

Remedy at 611 is averaging two shows a week, Jepperson said.

The setting in a working brewery provides a unique vibe, he said.

“It’s the feeling of having beers with your buddies in a garage and listening to music,” he said of the old dairy plant that Remedy took over in 2019.

Most of the concerts are open to those 18-and-older, so some of the ticketholders actually aren’t old enough to buy beer.

Jepperson also envisions outdoor concerts this summer, noting that the production site isn’t in a residential area and there is ample parking in the commercial neighborhood. The brewery also is next to the baseball fields at Burnside Park .

The current indoor space can hold up to 200 concertgoers, but Remedy is seeking city approval for construction plans to expand that.

An adjacent space that’s being used now for storage would expand capacity, allowing Remedy at 611 to host shows for 500 to 600 concertgoers. He’s hoping to have the additional space ready for occupancy before the summer is over.

As part of another construction project, the kitchen is being remodeled to make an expanded menu possible, Jepperson said. The taproom has been serving jumbo slices of pizza in the meantime. The kitchen should be ready by June, and that’s when Jepperson envisions returning to regular hours. For now, the taproom is open only on nights when there are shows and for special events and private parties.

More beer offerings are on the way too. Tap boxes are being expanded from four lines of Remedy’s brews to a dozen, Jepperson said. The boxes allow bartenders to move the beer throughout the building.

Remedy at 611 also is adding a video lottery casino that should be open later this month, he said.

There’s still enough room at the brewery that pickleball courts could be added someday, Jepperson said. Remedy installed three courts in an adjacent former warehouse next to its downtown site at the beginning of the year and already has added a fourth court because of demand.

More than 1,800 members have signed up on the app that allows them to reserve court times, he said.
