Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
The assets of longtime Sioux Falls precast concrete manufacturer Gage Brothers Concrete Products now are owned by a Minnesota-based former competitor. Molin Sioux Falls Inc., a new entity formed under Molin Holdings, is the owner of both the plant at 2810 N. Bahnson Ave. as well as the overall operation, which began in 1915.
Avera has expanded acute care hours at its 2100 S. Marion Road location to offer all-day walk-in care. New hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Dollar Fresh Market locations in Tea and Harrisburg have been upgraded and rebranded as Hy-Vee stores. The store upgrades include bakery departments, full-service meat counters, HealthMarket sections, improved produce departments and more than 16,000 new items. Additional Hy-Vee Mealtime offerings are available, including Mia Italian take-and-bake pizzas and grab-and-go sandwiches and salads.
What began as a small downtown shop for makers has tripled in size in a new location. Bobbi Clayton has opened Wild Peach & Co. inside the Harvester Building, 196 E. Sixth St., in the former space that was JuLiana’s Boutique La Femme. She previously was a co-founder at The Maker’s Circle, which opened last year in The Cascade building on North Phillips Avenue and has closed. It’s open daily and features more than 30 vendors with room for more.
Burger King has closed its stand-alone restaurant on The Empire Mall campus.
Cinnabon has closed its location in the food court at The Empire Mall.
The owners of Roots of Brasil are operating a new event venue. They’ve leased the adjacent space at 201 N. Weber Ave., which previously was an event venue, and renamed it Oak & Olive Events. The venue can seat 65 and accommodate about 100 people standing.
Medical staff in a new three-story building at the Avera on Louise campus saw their first gastroenterology patients on Jan. 19. The first procedure is scheduled for Jan. 26. Avera Pavilion 2 Digestive Health and Gastroenterology is connected by an underground tunnel to the Avera Specialty Hospital at 69th Street and Louise Avenue. The new building is designed to address the growing demand for GI care. Avera will refit the former GI space in the Specialty Hospital for expanded orthopedics treatment.
Gap Factory is coming to The Empire Mall. The lower-price version of Gap is expected to open in early summer and likely will involve several existing retail spaces. Gap closed at the mall in 2020.
Expected to open this spring at The Empire Mall is JD Sports, a global retailer that sells athletic footwear, apparel and accessories. It’s moving into the Lane Bryant space. The national women’s apparel retailer closed Jan. 17.
Chick-fil-A opened its second stand-alone location in Sioux Falls on Jan. 15. It’s located on the east side at 4900 E. Arrowhead Parkway. It features a dedicated drive-thru lane for mobile orders.
Sioux Falls-based A&B Business Solutions has acquired Fargo-based Far From Normal, a regional dealer specializing in graphic arts hardware and supplies. It’s also a dealer for production print equipment and has a South Dakota location in North Sioux City.
The new Stones Coffee and Play near Harrisburg features a play place for kids 6 months through 8 years old and a full-service coffee bar. Playtimes are available in two-hour sessions. It’s owned by Alexi Bonte and is at 27294 Kenworth Place, Suite 1, near the Harrisburg exit on I-29.
Gameday Social Apparel Co. is moving from downtown Sioux Falls into a larger space at 2500 E. 52nd St. N. The former Cigna location will allow the growing business, which focuses on selling college-branded clothing to female sports fans, to combine its office, in-house production, distribution and expanded warehouse space in a single location. The plan is to begin distribution and screen printing in the new building in the first quarter and have the office operational by late April.
Liz and Ray Jacob have started 4oreplay Golf at the Western Mall. The business at the Western Mall features three golf simulators from Full Swing. It does not offer memberships. Tee times can be booked in half-hour increments from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
Flyboy Donuts has expanded from Sioux Falls to Brookings. The locally owned business opened a storefront in December at Village Square on Sixth Street. It’s open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
According to a report, women’s boutique chain Francesca’s is liquidating its inventory and closing soon. The Sioux Falls store has been in The Empire Mall since 2014.
John Dawes has become the Sioux Falls franchisee for TrueBlue Home Service Ally, which offers insured home maintenance and senior modification services, focusing on helping seniors “age in place” safely and assisting families with to-do lists through subscription plans or one-off services. Services cover everything from minor repairs, seasonal yard work and cleaning to major safety modifications like grab bars and ramp installations. Dawes has a background in the mortgage and auto industries.
