The Empire Mall to add Gap Factory, JD Sports
Jan. 12, 2026
National retailers Gap Factory and JD Sports are coming to The Empire Mall.
Gap Factory brings the “Gap” name back to the mall for the first time since 2020, when Gap and Banana Republic closed.
Gap Factory also is owned by parent company Gap Inc. and serves as a lower-priced brand for more value-conscious customers. The location at The Empire Mall will offer classic wardrobe essentials and trending apparel for men, women and kids, according to a statement from The Empire Mall.
It’s expected to open early this summer and likely will involve several existing retail spaces.
JD Sports, which offers athletic footwear, apparel and accessories, plans to open this spring.
It’s moving into the Lane Bryant space, where that national retailer recently announced a closure.
JD Sports was founded in England in 1981 and is known for carrying major brands in addition to its own private label.
“The addition of JD Sports and Gap Factory reflects The Empire Mall’s continued investment in bringing sought-after national brands to the Sioux Falls community and enhancing the overall shopping experience for residents and visitors,” said Dan Gies, manager at The Empire Mall.
