Flyboy Donuts opens shop in Brookings

Jan. 16, 2026

Flyboy Donuts has expanded to Brookings.

The locally owned doughnut shop, which has five locations in Sioux Falls, opened a storefront in mid-December in the college town where it has been delivering doughnuts once a week for the past eight years.

“Late spring last year, we came across a spot in Village Square, where Guadalajara Mexican Restaurant is,” owner Ben Duenwald said. “It was just a slam dunk to put a doughnut shop there.”

The shop at 1715 Sixth St. is open from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The doughnuts are made in Sioux Falls and delivered fresh each day the shop is open.

In addition, Flyboy’s doughnuts are available at the Classic Corner gas station, and the business is looking forward to adding other wholesale locations where customers will be able to buy them.

Flyboy will continue to cater for events and make deliveries for large orders, Duenwald said. Same-day delivery for small orders will be coming.

The shop serves its own coffee brand, Flyboy Coffee, and packaged coffee beans also are sold at the shop. Espresso drinks will be coming soon, Duenwald said, along with breakfast sandwiches.

Eventually, the shop will take advantage of the drive-thru window that’s already there, he said.

Students are others are welcome to use the seating area to study or chat, Duenwald said.

“They’ve been wanting a hangout and a place to sit just beyond Perkins,” he said, noting that there are other good spots downtown, but Flyboy’s shop is closer to the SDSU campus.

Duenwald is excited about expanding his business to serve his alma mater and the community.

“It’s nostalgic and surreal to go back to the town I started in,” said Duenwald, a Hoven-area farm kid who graduated from SDSU in 2001 and had his second date with his future wife at Guadalajara.
