Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
Sioux Falls-based Direct Companies has a new office in Aberdeen and is steadily growing its presence in northeast South Dakota. Its tech-based services include process and machine automation, custom software and data management, phone systems, managed IT and security system services.
Everhome Suites is planning to break ground this fall next to the Sanford Sports Complex. The 114-room extended-stay hotel will be at 2801 N. Westport Ave.
The family who owns Maguire has started Elevated Outdoor Living, which makes kits to build backyard getaways. The freestanding wooden structure sits on a on steel frame and is described as a treehouse without the tree.
ClubHouse Hotel & Suites at 2320 S. Louise Ave. has started construction on an addition that will result in 42 additional guest rooms. It’s expected to open less than a year from now.
Two restaurants have provided updated time lines for opening. The Tavern Grill at 4801 S. Louise Ave. confirmed that it plans to open later this fall. The new owners of Casa del Rey initially planned to reopen in September; that has been pushed to the second half of October.
Makers Exchange has opened in Tea with about 80 vendors selling items such as home decor and furniture, clothing and accessories, artwork and crafts, pet items, toys, and health and beauty products. The business at 102 E. Venture Place near Interstate 29 is open daily.
The UPS Store has moved from 2522 W. 41st St. to 832 S. Highline Place at Dawley Farm Village. The location offers UPS pack-and-ship services, printing and copying, mailbox rental and Amazon returns, as well as basic office supplies. It’s open Monday through Saturday.
Intoxibakes has moved back downtown. The bakery that offers alcohol-infused and regular baked goods now shares space with Candy Cloud Factory at 701 N. Phillips Ave. The bakery had moved from its longtime location in downtown’s Jones421 Building to The Empire Mall in March.
Casey’s plans to open its 13th Sioux Falls location on the city’s expanding east side. The Iowa-based gas station and convenience store bought land at 1200 N. Finnigan Ave., on the southwest corner of Veterans Parkway and Madison Street. A time line for construction hasn’t been announced.
Two restaurants coming to The Steel District development next to Levitt at the Falls have set opening dates. Dahlia Kitchen + Bar, which is a contemporary Mexican restaurant, and Big Sioux Burger are scheduled to open Oct. 15. Ironwood, a third concept from Twin Cities restaurateur Josh Thoma and partners, is expected to open in late October.
Vishnu Bunny Tattoo and Piercing has moved from 202 S. Phillips Ave. to 335 N. Main Ave. It’s expected to reopen later this week. The new owners of the Phillips Avenue building, the Ode family, who also own Crawford’s Bar & Grill and Wagoo Burger, are planning a new food and beverage concept for the space.
Yelloh, formerly known as Schwan’s Home Delivery, announced that after 72 years its business, its final orders will be delivered in November. The last day to purchase will be Nov. 8. The company cited multiple “insurmountable business challenges” for the decision, including economic and market forces, as well as changing consumer lifestyles.
4 Lunas Botanica has moved from West Madison Street to 1300 W. 12th St. The metaphysical store sells nature-based remedies, items for spiritual practices, incense, candles and many other goods for spiritual use.
Stir Fry Express has opened in The Empire Mall food court. The concept allows customers to fill containers with Chinese food from a buffet and pay by weight.
McDonald’s has opened its first location west of Interstate 29 in Sioux Falls. It’s on the northeast corner of 41st and Ellis. While hours could expand, for now the restaurant is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
A new lawn and landscaping business focuses on a carbon-neutral approach and “mindful landscaping.” Cody Siewert started Greenie Lawn & Landscaping earlier this year. The business uses organic chemicals and electric equipment. It will offer snow removal and holiday lighting in the winter.
