Restaurant Roundup: Cookie changes, featured menus, where to find free ice cream

July 13, 2023

Crumbl Cookies has booted the Classic Pink Sugar Cookie from its permanent spot on the weekly menu. It will make an appearance as a rotating cookie a few times in the year. And for another change, milk chocolate chip will switch off every other week with semi-sweet chocolate chip.

Roots of Brasil has a featured menu for verao, or summer, with a poke bowl, a fried rice and ham bowl, and a pizza with roasted red pepper chimichurri sauce, calabrese linguica, hearts of palm, red onion, fresh herbs and buratta cheese.

For dessert there are tempura-fried plantains with coconut pineapple ice cream, creme de coco and caramel.

Get there early if you want to celebrate National Ice Cream day at the three Stensland Family Farms Sioux Falls ice cream shops on July 16.

The retail stores are giving away ice cream in limited quantities while supplies last. It starts at 12 p.m. at the store at 3101 W. 41st St. and at 1 p.m. at 3221 S. Sertoma Ave. and 4712 E. 41st St.

Maribella Ristorante’s July features include Cozze al Vino Blanco, or steamed mussels in a smoked white wine broth; Bistecca Alla Maremmana, a beef tenderloin fillet topped with a bone marrow and red wine reduction; and Torta Mantovana, a Tuscan almond cake.

The July features at R Wine Bar & Kitchen are sausage dip, lemon primavera pasta and s’mores creme brule.

The featured menu for summer at Kaladi’s Bistro includes Mexican street corn as an ingredient in a few of the dishes. Find it in mac-and-cheese, a quesadilla and with grilled chicken in nachos. New Tater kegs are oversized tater tots stuffed with cheddar cheese, bacon, chives and sour cream. There’s also a wagyu ball tip sirloin steak, boneless country-style ribs, pork ribeye or pesto pork ribeye with pesto cavatappi.

The Saucy Boyz at Remedy Brewing Co. have crafted a few new menu items. The Queso Dog is a one-quarter-pound, all-beef hot dog in a Breadsmith bun topped with queso, jalapeno and pickled onion. The Rimedio Chopped Beef Sandwich is a spin on the brewery’s Downtown Burger Battle entry from July. Wagyu beef is topped with giardiniera and cheese in a Breadsmith bun and served with au jus. The Gyro Flatbread is hummus, gyro meat, feta and a cheese blend topped with tzatziki. It’s served with Kalamata olives on the side.

Here are the July offerings for the monthly three-course menu at Chef Lance’s on Phillips.

Coffea Roasterie now offers bottled lattes, cold brew and chai at all three locations. The coffee roaster rolled out the new grab-and-go items in June at the Louise Avenue coffee shop. Flavor choices will vary as Coffea gathers feedback on what customers like the most, but a seasonal option always will be available. Return the bottle when it’s empty, and get $1 off any purchase.

Looking for a vegan option for a catered lunch meeting? En Place Catering has added the Mezze Box with vegan spins on muhammara, tabbouleh, dolmas, spanakopita and lavosh.

Instead of a throwback flavor of the month at Poppy’s Popcorn Co., owner Nathan Bertsch came up with a new concoction that he’s calling Summer Heat. He describes it as a spicy barbecue.

When you want “just a little something to eat,” Urban Chislic has new chicken wraps for $5. They’re spins on bowls and sandwiches offered on the menu.

‘Brosia Bowl’s breakfast items are no longer on the restaurant menu, but customers can find them every Saturday on the food truck at the Falls Park Farmers Market. Owner Darcy Green said there wasn’t enough interest in the breakfast bowl and burrito at the Jones421 location, but they’re a big hit at the farmers market. They’re filled with roasted potatoes, peppers and onions, scrambled tofu, pico de gallo, cheese and crunchy corn tortilla strips.

Tarquin Argentinian Restaurant has several special meals coming up in the next month. Here’s the schedule.

Changes in hours, service

  • Uppercut is closing its kitchen two hours earlier every night. New hours for the full menu are 4 to 8 p.m. weekdays and noon to 8 p.m. on the weekend. Pizza is served until the bar closes.
  • Cultivated in Love’s last day for charcuterie board orders is July 29. Owner Landi Schweigert  expects to be on maternity leave until mid-September. “I will be answering emails during this time; however, they will not be as prompt as normal as I’m taking this time to rest and to be with family. Also I’m already booking for Christmas parties, so please don’t wait until last minute. I won’t be taking as much this year because of our sweet babe.”
