Metaphysical remedy store relocates near downtown

Sept. 25, 2024

The metaphysical store 4 Lunas Botanica has a new location near downtown.

Joshua and Juan Reyes opened the business two years ago on West Madison Street and recently relocated to 1300 W. 12th St.

“It has been a blessing to be at this new location,” Joshua Reyes said. “We’ve seen an increase in new customers on this busier street.”

4 Lunas Botanica is a metaphysical store that sells nature-based remedies, items for spiritual practices, incense, candles and many other goods for spiritual use.

“The name 4 Lunas Botanica is for my husband, our son, our cat and myself,” Reyes said. “Part of our spiritually follows the moon phases, and Botanica is a Spanish word describing metaphysical (stores).”

Reyes, who has lived in Sioux Falls since 2015, said he grew up in the south of Texas, and his family comes from a Mexican background with strong spiritual beliefs.

“This comes from my DNA and is something we’ve practiced for generations,” Reyes said. “I saw a need for this in Sioux Falls. … We need different spiritual items for our journeys, our prayers, altars, candles, incense and images.”

4 Lunas Botanica offers a wide variety of incense, spiritual powders, resins and sage. The store caters to individuals from diverse backgrounds and provides an extensive selection of spiritual products, Reyes said.

“We do a lot of events too with different vendors,” Reyes said. “We also have mass here and a public altar,” Reyes said. “We want it to be a safe space. Some people might be scared to practice in different places because of biases.”

Looking to the future, Reyes said he sees himself continuing to provide new products, personalized products and becoming a distributor for different botanicas in the area.

“We like to source our products straight from Mexico or from locals in Sioux Falls, Reyes said. “As small businesses, we rely on other small businesses and need to help each other out.”

As the Day of the Dead approaches, Reyes said the business is planning for that and the Parade of Lights this year.

“It’s important to be involved in the community. We want people to know we are here and offer services to help their journeys,” Reyes said. “We gave out Thanksgiving plates of food last year, along with gloves and blankets.”

Reyes said he loves to take care of his community and help those in need. At 4 Lunas Botanica, the goal is to offer religious and spiritual assistance to individuals who are just beginning their journey or have been practicing for a long time.

“We love to help in any way we can,” Reyes said. “And the community has embraced us with open arms.”
