An expansion years in the making is now underway at the Sioux Falls ClubHouse Hotel & Suites.

The hotel at 2320 S. Louise Ave. has started construction on an addition that will result in 42 additional guest rooms off the southeast corner of the property adjacent to the Big Sioux River.

“We have so much demand from guests who want to stay at the ClubHouse that this just makes sense,” said Josh Schmaltz, president and CEO of The Ramkota Companies, which owns and operates the property.

“There’s a well-deserved reputation here for customer service, and we see huge loyalty among our guests, especially on the corporate side. We have people who have stayed with us since the first day we opened nearly two decades ago.”

The rooms in the addition will offer golf course views, and all rooms facing the river will include patios or decks.

“We still have a spectacular courtyard in the back, so all our guests can enjoy the setting, but this is going to be a nice addition because these will be the first rooms with their own access outdoors,” Schmaltz said.

“The rooms themselves definitely will have a distinct design. You’ll still know you’re in the ClubHouse, but everything here will be new and fresh and updated.”

The addition builds on last season’s comprehensive renovation of the original ClubHouse property. It included a top-to-bottom remodel of guest rooms and public spaces.

“There wasn’t an area left untouched,” Schmaltz said. “We maintained the high-quality traditional feel we are known for but added a modern element that’s been very well received.”

An expanded breakfast area has doubled in size and now offers local Coffea Roasterie as the hotel’s in-house coffee in addition to a deluxe daily continental breakfast.

Other popular amenities include:

• An indoor children’s water playland with two water slides and a mushroom fountain.

• Complimentary social hour with two drinks for guests 21 and older from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

“We find huge demand from youth sports on weekends and teams that continually stay with us. The renovated Great Room is such a popular spot for parents at night, getting together for cocktails, and the pool is a really nice spot for the kids,” Schmaltz said.

Beck & Hofer Construction is the general contractor for the addition, which is expected to open less than a year from now.

The ClubHouse also will be adding team members to support the addition.

“We’re really excited to be able to offer more options for guests,” Schmaltz said. “I give a lot of kudos to the city of Sioux Falls and the work of Experience Sioux Falls for what they’ve created overall to make Sioux Falls a destination. There’s always something going on that creates demand, and we’re feeding off of that. We’re riding that success and realize we have an opportunity here to really provide another option for people coming into Sioux Falls.”
