Intoxibakes to move back downtown
Sept. 20, 2024
Intoxibakes is closing its bakery in The Empire Mall by the end of the month and moving back downtown.
The bakery that offers alcohol-infused and regular baked goods will move in with Candy Cloud Factory at 701 N. Phillips Ave.
Holly Jorgenson, daughter Josie Layton and daughter-in-law Shannon Johnson own both businesses.
“It just makes good business sense to combine the two,” Jorgenson said. “It will be a lot earlier for us to manage everything.”

The bakery moved from its longtime location in downtown’s Jones421 Building to the mall in March. The family signed a month-to-month lease while they looked for a permanent home for the business, which they started in 2017. In addition to baked goods, the mall location also sells Candy Cloud’s cotton candy and SDSU Ice Cream.
Intoxibakes is expected to open Oct. 1 in the Candy Cloud Factory space, which is along the boardwalk of The Cascade at Falls Park apartments.
Space will be tight, but it will work, Jorgenson said. The cotton candy, SDSU Ice Cream and candy shop offerings will be on one side of the store, and the bakery cases will be on the other, she said.
The bakery’s offerings include cupcakes, bars, cake pops, cream puffs, carrot cake, coffeecakes and custom-order cakes.

“The only thing we won’t be offering is cookies,” Jorgenson said, noting that Mary’s Mountain Cookies also has a bakery along the boardwalk.
She expects that hours for the combined businesses will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday, and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
