Restaurant Roundup: Best wine list, new foods, cheap eats
June 27, 2024
Wine Spectator’s favorite wine list in South Dakota is at Morrie’s Steakhouse. The Sioux Falls restaurant has received the magazine’s only Best of Award of Excellence in South Dakota this year. Wine Spectator gave the award to 1,531 restaurants worldwide. Five other Sioux Falls restaurants were recognized with the Award of Excellence: Harvester Kitchen by Bryan, Parker’s Bistro, and the three offerings from Vinyahd Restaurant Group: Brix Wine Bar, Maribella Ristorante and R Wine Bar & Kitchen. That award went to 2,150 restaurants. The program recognizes “restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers.”

The Barrel House has 10 new menu items, ranging from tempura-battered cauliflower and a hot honey pimento burger to a watermelon panzanella salad and The Cry Baby pizza. See all the offerings here.

Invictus Pizza Kitchen has added online ordering and delivery service. The service area is Sioux Falls and surrounding areas. Type your address into the online system, and it will verify if you’re eligible for delivery. There’s no delivery fee, and Invictus pays the service fee. The quick-serve restaurant also is celebrating its six-month anniversary with a parking lot party from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. There will be a car show, live music, a beer and soda garden, pizza, burgers, brats, inflatables, face painting and games for the kids.

Pho Thai has added patio seating with service on Phillips Avenue. Each of the two tables seats four people.

Applebee’s has three new crispy chicken sandwiches: Bacon Ranch, Sweet & Spicy and Bacon Cheddar. Through Sunday, for dine-in only, get the Bacon Ranch version with fries and a soft drink for $11.

B&G Milkyway has a new smoked brisket sandwich. It replaces the barbecue beef sandwich – not to be confused with sloppy joes, which are still available.

To celebrate National Onion Day, Outback Steakhouse is offering a free Bloomin’ Onion today and Friday. Mention the offer to your server or use code BLOOM online.

Through Monday, Papa Murphy’s has a BOGO offer on large or family-size pizzas. Use the code BOGO24.

PepperJax Grill is offering a BOGO special on Phillies for in-store purchases Tuesday.

LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse in Dell Rapids is offering its take-and-bake cinnamon roll kits for the Fourth of July. Order a half-dozen or dozen by Sunday for pickup Wednesday. Half-gallon iced lattes, cold brew and housemade lemonade also are available.

Covert Artisan Ales & Cellars is celebrating its fifth anniversary Saturday with several new releases. That includes Breakfast With the Berrys, one of the first beers owners Dan and Stacey Berry made. This time it’s a rye barrel-aged, mixed-fermentation, sour ale conditioned on blueberries and maple syrup. Also coming: Barrel Aged Cake Actually, a German chocolate cake-inspired stout, and Pop Squad, a remake of its first barrel-aged stout that has been conditioned on six types of vanilla beans. The party starts at 3 p.m.

Several restaurants and food trucks made sure residents in the area with flood damage and first responders taking care of their communities had food and something to drink. Here are a few we noticed.
- Tacos de Gringo served lunch and dinner Tuesday to residents in Rock Valley, Iowa, and is going back again Sunday. Donations for food and items for hygiene kits are being collected.
- The Gruff Plates + Pours in Brandon is collecting laundry and hygiene items for those affected locally and in Rock Valley.
- Oh My Cupcakes delivered sweet treats Friday to Metro Communications, the city’s Public Works crew and the National Weather Service.
- Flyboy Donuts donated 25 gallons of Flyboy Coffee in 5- and 10-gallon containers to groups that were fighting the flooding Saturday.
- DQ Grill & Chill in Hartford delivered supper Saturday to residents who suffered damage.
- The Office Bar in Montrose took pork and potato salad to a meal for the community.
- Thai Ten delivered pans of egg rolls to the Sioux Falls Police Department.
Changes in hours, service
- Starting next week, Godfather’s Pizza on West 41st Street will be closed Mondays, remaining open Tuesday through Sunday. “This change will allow our very hardworking staff to have some well-deserved time off,” the restaurant said in a post on social media.
- Parlour has expanded its hours for summer. It’s open until 9 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. The shop on the second floor of the Washington Pavilion serves nine rotating flavors of ice cream. Museum admission is not needed to visit Parlour.
- Reminder that Sunday brunch at Verde Lounge in the Holiday Inn City Centre is suspended starting this weekend through July 28 because of kitchen remodeling.
