Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Sunshine Foods and Lewis Family Drug in Canton have expanded into the former Pizza Ranch and other vacant space in their building at 715 E. Fifth St. Lewis now has a drive-thru for its pharmacy.

Sioux Valley Energy has completed an expansion at its Brandon service center at 108 N. Heritage Road. The electric co-op’s addition will help accommodate expected growth.

Under new ownership, Mulberry Market has moved into The Empire Mall. Jamie Bendewald bought the business that opened in 2022 at 41st and Marion. That location also will remain open through November. The mall location, which is in half of the former Renegade space near Applebee’s, has room for 45 vendors.

Dakota Craft Links has opened in the Jones421 Building at 421 N. Phillips Ave. Chef Ryan Tracy, the former owner of Bros Brasserie Americano,  took over the former Flying Santo Taco Bar space. The retail market with “a little bit of a restaurant” features Tracy’s housemade sausages. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday.

A new online auction site for vintage, collectible and valuable instruments is beginning to connect buyers and sellers from its headquarters in downtown Sioux Falls. StringTree, which is online at stringtree.co, is the brainchild of Peter Burghardt, a lifelong musician.

As of Dec. 1, GreatLIFE Golf & Fitness will be the manager of Avera McKennan Fitness Center. The fitness center at 3400 S. Southeastern Ave. previously was managed by Power Wellness. Current members of fitness center will have the opportunity to become members of GreatLIFE, providing them with enhanced benefits such as access to other GreatLIFE fitness centers and golf.

Construction work has started at Harvest Hills, a 325-acre development in northwest Sioux Falls. The site will feature a manufacturing facility where the houses will be built indoors before being moved onto foundations. As many as a dozen houses could be manufactured at one time. The first phase is about half the total development and has room for 85 houses.

Pete and Jessie Halverson have started Skol Sauna, a mobile sauna that can be rented for an entire weekend or during the week. It comes with tanks for cold plunge that renters fill up with their own ice and water.

The Tavern Grill opens Wednesday in the former Spezia space at 57th and Louise. The menu features build-your-own burgers, salads and pizzas, with a popular Sunday brunch buffet.

A salon that has been a fixture on 26th Street for 38 years is moving south. Vanessens Hair Design will open as Vanessens Salon & Suites at 307 W. 41st St. in January, after it finishes renovating the former Boen & Associates building. The new location almost doubles the size of the salon, which has 15 service providers. It also will offer eight suites for rent. Vanessens’ location at The Bridges at 57th will remain open.

Xcel Energy is wrapping up construction on an expansion of its fleet maintenance and warehouse operations at Minnesota and Russell. The new building, which is expected to open in December, also will include office space, meeting rooms and a break area for employees.

Rion Equipment has moved from the south side of Sioux Falls to a former Maguire building at 1501 N. Minnesota Ave. The business sells and services material-handling equipment.

The cafe at Makers Exchange in Tea has opened. It sells gourmet coffee and artisan waffles. Makers Exchange at 102 E. Venture Place features products from more than 70 vendors.

A home-based crafting business has moved into shared space with Tea Storm Chasers at 507 E. Brian St. in Tea. Char’s Crafts & Creations offers make-and-take classes Thursdays through Sundays. Wednesdays are open painting and crafting nights.

Scooter’s Coffee has opened in Harrisburg. The new location is at 550 W. Willow St. and offers drive-thru and walk-up service, with no seating inside. It’s open daily.

The Small Shoppe has closed in the Gourley Building at Sixth and Main but will continue to sell vintage items online. Owner Jenny Putzke expanded from selling through an Instagram account to a brick-and-mortar location in February. She had been leasing the space on a month-to-month basis. She’s planning to add pop-up and backyard sales in the warmer months.
