The Treasury turns into burger pop-up shop with limited-time menu

It has gone far beyond a burger.

Instead of just participating in the annual Downtown Burger Battle, The Treasury is changing up its entire menu for it.

Introducing The Burger Shop Pop-Up, a fun, nostalgic menu perfect for brightening up the cold weeks ahead.

“We figured out having done this for a few years now that during the Burger Battle we change from being a classic cocktail lounge in a unique hotel to being a burger shop, so leaning into that was the goal,” general manager Michael Mohr said.

“We changed our brand a little bit to align with what happens in January and play to the guest that is coming to see us.”

Let’s start with the reason for the shift: the burger.

The Treasury’s Burger Battle entry this year is The Smash & Grab, featuring two smashed patties, sharp American cheese, shredded lettuce, onion, pickles and special sauce on a brioche bun.

“This year, we did a 180 on what we normally do,” head chef Matthew Regnier said. “We usually go toward a more high-end, unique, eccentric kind of feel that’s a little more involved, but this is my sixth Burger Battle, and I was over that idea. So we said let’s go back to the roots of an old-school burger shop, smash burger-style and do something a little more off brand for us. We wanted to have some fun and get customers and our staff excited.”

And, of course, what’s a burger without fries? The Treasury’s are classic crinkle cut and available loaded with throwback cheese sauce, bacon and pickled jalapenos.

Along with the burger, there’s an eight-piece menu filled with fun dishes, from the “cluck off” chicken on a buttermilk biscuit to the “Jack the Ripper,” a Jersey-style hot dog with “old-school Grandma-style chili, onions and mustard,” Regnier said. “It’s a menu with a lot of value with the goal of being really accessible for all diners. We want to make sure everyone can come in and try it.”

And they are.

“It’s gone over crazy well so far,” Mohr said. “It’s been our busiest Burger Battle since the first one post-COVID.”

The menu also includes The Treasury’s customer favorites — Treasury Dip and pork carnitas tacos — plus the popular fried oyster mushrooms. It’s available for a limited time, but at least through January.

“We’re seeing people come in and do the full Treasury experience,” Mohr said. “They’re ordering the burger, and they’re finding their cocktail of choice, whether it’s a margarita or a local beer we keep on tap. The cocktail menu continues to be fun and fresh, and we’re finding people enjoying their experience their way.”

The kitchen opens at 4 p.m. weekdays and 3 p.m. Saturdays.
