Shot for a shot, food features, more new additions at JJ’s

Here’s one more reason to make sure you get a COVID-19 vaccination: Your shot card is going to help you save while toasting your newly immunized status.

Bring that card to JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars at 3000 W. 57th St., and you’ll save half off any beer, wine or cocktail in The Bar at JJ’s.

“We always want to be part of the solution,” owner Tom Slattery said. “The only way we’re going to get past this is herd immunity through vaccination. So that’s why we decided we were just going to incentivize people for showing us they got their shot and letting us stamp their card.”

It’s limited to one offer per person – but hold onto that card (well, you should anyway) because there might be more special offers ahead.

Food features

Speaking of special offers, The Boozy Bakery kitchen has been making some amazing creations.

“Not only are there delectable desserts but a continually evolving and improving food program for in-house diners and carryout,” Slattery said.

For the last Friday of Lent, JJ’s is featuring clam chowder and the new signature JJ’s lobster roll. It’s served cold on a toasted bun with steak fries.

“People are loving them,” Slattery said. “We’ve had them sell out early in the weekend, but we’re stocked up and will be able to accommodate demand to finish Lent strong.”

Make note: Next week marks the return of the popular Friday night brisket special.

And come in any day for The Boozy Bakery kitchen’s menu of entrees, burgers, sandwiches, salads and pizzas.

Customer favorites include brisket nachos, The Barnyard and the Big Bleu Burger.

What’s The Barnyard, you ask? Listen to Slattery’s most recent spot with Townsquare Media, and you’ll get the picture.

And remember, you can always grab snacks to go and enjoy them in The Bar or at home — think grub boxes filled with charcuterie, beer cheese dip, spinach and artichoke dip or Jean Slattery’s classic chicken salad or new cashew chicken curry salad.

Whiskey Wednesday

Whiskey Wednesday just keeps getting better. The week’s feature flight highlights the new Thomas S. Moore cask-finished bourbons, which are being released in limited quantities in this area.

“To take it up a notch, we will have a couple of special guests on the Zoom webinar to give you a little background on these products,” Slattery said. “Master distiller Danny Kahn and brand manager Chris Collins will be offering the first presentation of these bourbons in our area, and we are very excited about that.”

Click this link for all the details about the tasting and the bottle raffle that will follow. The Zoom link is there too if you want to sign up for just the presentation and the bottle raffle. You will get your name on the wheel once by doing this. You will get additional chances by purchasing the feature flight.

“This bottle raffle may be your only chance at getting your hands on these new bottles outside of drinking them in our bar,” Slattery said.

You will have the option of purchasing the flight for “home” or “in-house.”  If you purchase for home, your flight will be ready to pick up after 9 a.m. Wednesday. If you purchase in-house (recommended), your flight will be poured when you arrive. The Event Room will be set up to host the presentation on our big screen. If you prefer to stay in The Bar, bring headphones and watch on your phone!

Saturday specials, Easter prep

Start your weekend right with a bloody mary or mimosa beginning in The Bar at 10 a.m. Saturday. Plus stock up on scones, quiche and other treats perfect for Easter morning.

And for Easter dinner, The Boozy Bakery will be ready for you with boozy and nonboozy desserts.

“Jean is tripling production this week because we’ve been running out even without a holiday,” Slattery said.

Not surprisingly, wine is the most popular beverage taken home for Easter dinner.

What wine goes best with ham?

“Stop in and ask our wine experts, and they will help you,” Slattery said. “We’ll likely want to know a little more about what’s going on the dinner table.”
