Breaking Burrito is expanding with a second food truck that will make its debut this weekend at Country Apple Orchard’s kickoff to the fall season. It’s Carlos Salgado’s second attempt at having two food trucks after the pandemic decimated last season’s schedule of events. That extra truck ended up being sold to a Mexican restaurant in Minnesota. Salgado found his newest truck in Texas at the beginning of the year and has been working since then to build it out. Breaking Burrito II will run through October, including more events at the orchard. This season, it will serve only tacos and burritos. Next year, it will have Breaking Burrito’s full menu, and Salgado hopes to expand further with chimichangas, flautas, gringas, tortas, tamales and picada. He posts his schedule at the beginning of the week on his Facebook and Instagram pages.

Hy-Vee is celebrating National Family Meals Month with free food for kids. Those 12 and younger can eat for free with each purchase of a select adult entree every day in September at all Hy-Vee food service departments and Hy-Vee Market Grille locations. The offer also is good at the new Wahlburgers that opens Tuesday in the Hy-Vee at 26th and Marion. It’s valid for dine-in and carryout or delivery from hy-vee.com/mealtime. National Family Meals Month was created by the Food Industry Association to raise consumer awareness of the health and societal benefits of sharing frequent family meals. Research shows that children who share regular family meals typically display better grades, improved nutrition, stronger family relationships and higher self-esteem, and they are less likely to use drugs and alcohol, Hy-Vee said in a news release about special events for the month.
