New business to combine charcuterie boards, floral displays

Sept. 9, 2025

The owners of a barbecue restaurant in south Sioux Falls are opening an adjacent business that will craft charcuterie boards and floral bouquets.

Platter & Petal is the creation of Jess Jones and her husband, Ryan Gaede. The two opened The Smoked Culture BBQ & Brews at 3400 W. 49th St. two years ago.

Jones said she loves food, flowers and bringing people together and is excited about delivering something different to the area, which is near The Empire Mall.

In addition to being a restaurant owner, Jones has a creative side as a graphic designer, and she worked for four years at Josephine’s Floral Designery, continuing after that to help with big events like Valentine’s Day and as needed because she loved it so much — until the shop closed earlier this year. In addition, she was making holiday charcuterie board for friends and family, and “with that experience, I thought it would be amazing to bring florals into the mix too.”

The Platter & Petal space, which also will have an entrance from The Smoked Culture, “will be designed to feel like a studio,” Jones said. “You’ll be able to see boards and blooms come together.”

The space will have an open prep kitchen, coolers and workbench space for the floral element, an area to pick up orders – which also can be delivered — and seating for customers to enjoy nibbling and a drink or participate in build-a-board classes and other events.

Charcuterie offerings will range from individual snack-size servings to spreads suitable for an office lunch up to a 100-person celebration, Jones said. The boards will incorporate edible flowers and can be paired with floral displays.

They’ll be completely customizable, with options for smoked meats and cheeses from the restaurant in addition to typical charcuterie board offerings, she said. Dietary accommodations can be incorporated into ingredient choices. Flowers for the boards can be picked to reflect specific color palettes.

Customers also will be able to drop in to pick up a bouquet or buy flowers by the stem to create their own, Jones said.

While the space likely won’t open until late fall, Platter & Petal will start accepting charcuterie orders through The Smoked Culture on Oct. 1.
