Restaurant Roundup: Downtown pizza, family-created ice cream flavors, January treats

Without a kitchen of its own, Severance Brewing Co. has teamed up with Sunny’s Pizzeria to offer five pizza options. The choices are Pepperoni, Cheese, Bacon Cheeseburglar, Jalapeno Popper and Three Little Pigs Went to Severance with bacon, ham and sausage. The brewery offers suggested beer pairings with each pizza. The frozen 12-inch pies are baked on-site and range in price from $13 to $16. During January, pizza won’t be served whenever the Downtown Burger Battle offering from Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mexican Catering is available.

Parlour in the Washington Pavilion has two new gourmet ice cream flavors available this month that were created by the Halberstadt family, who won the opportunity at last spring’s gala. Thousands of Thumbs in the Air is vanilla ice cream with vanilla cake, cookie dough pieces, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and mini M&Ms. Cowabunga is vanilla ice cream with Kit Kats, brownie pieces, M&Ms and a fudge swirl. Another featured flavor this month is blackberry cheesecake.

The Dive has started to sell its signature sauces, batters and seasonings for cooks to use at home. Offerings include everything from ketchup and barbecue sauce to french fry seasoning and chicken batter. Homemade dressings and soups can be pre-ordered.

Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet is auctioning off a 10-person Damascus Night dinner to raise money for World Central Kitchen and Chicago Chefs Cook’s efforts to help people affected by the fires in Los Angeles. The starting bid for the meal, which will feature three tables filled with appetizers, entrees and desserts, has been made at $2,000. Submit higher bids at sanaacooks@gmail.com, or call the restaurant at 605-275-2516. Owner Sanaa Abourezk will work with the winner to schedule a date for the dinner.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union is treating the first 75 guests Friday morning to a free drink and pastry from Black Iris. The food truck will be at the newly remodeled 57th and Marion branch from 8:30 to 11 a.m. The remodeled West 41st Street branch hosted Black Iris on Thursday morning.

Stop by Brioux Falls in The Steel District office tower Saturday for a free doughnut from Flyboy Donuts with any large beverage purchase while supplies last. The coffee shop is open from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. that day.

Baking up a Storm has a new app where customers can order items in the bakery for same-day pickup. Larger orders still need to be placed through the website or by phone. The bakery in The Blu at Lorraine also has a new menu item: sourdough bagel breakfast sandwiches. Choose an asiago or plain bagel with your choice of bacon or sausage, egg and cheese.

CH Patisserie is featuring two desserts for January. Panna Cotta is a “velvety vanilla and lemon-infused cream, paired with strawberry confit and a crunchy touch of yuzu.” Piccola Tiramisu is a “delicate blend of mascarpone cream, coffee-soaked ladyfingers and a dusting of rich cocoa powder.”

CNC Food Factory in the GreatLIFE at Avera McKennan Fitness Center has two new doughnuts. Strawberry Crunch is a strawberry doughnut with Golden Oreos, cream cheese icing, crumbled Oreos and strawberry drizzle. Cherry Cordial is a chocolate doughnut with maraschino cherries inside and cherry icing and almond drizzle. All the restaurant’s doughnuts are baked, not fried.

The January special at Gateway Bar & Grill is the Sriracha Honey Crispy Chicken Sandwich with Swiss cheese and bacon.

The new pop-up flavor at Nothing Bundt Cakes is Banana Pudding Cake featuring Nilla Wafers. It’s available through next week or while supplies last.

Ode to Food and Drinks is donating 15 percent of sales from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday to the Lincoln High School Band Parents Association when customers show the flyer below. The Lincoln Jazz Combo will be performing.

Chick-fil-A has new limited-time specials, including the Grilled Spicy Deluxe Sandwich, which was introduced in 2021. It features a grilled chicken breast marinated with a blend of peppers, served on a multigrain brioche bun with colby-jack cheese, lettuce and tomato. It comes with a limited-time condiment: Cilantro Lime Sauce. Seasonal drink offerings are the Key Lime Frosted Lemonade and Key Lime Lemonade.

After taking Kickin’ Ranch sauce off the menu a year ago, Jimmy John’s has brought it back. It’s available as a “soup” in a 6-ounce container, on the now-permanent Kickin’ Ranch Chicken Wrap and as the flavoring for the limited-time Kickin’ Ranch Jimmy Chips. Customers can ask for it on any sandwich or wrap at no extra charge.

Wingstop’s new limited-time flavor underwent a quick renaming before its launch today. Originally dubbed Pacific Glaze, it’s now Sweet Chili Glaze out of respect for the Los Angeles community, which is battling several fires, including one named the Pacific Palisades Fire. Sweet Chili is a sweet-and-spicy fusion of sweet chili, hoisin sauce and red chili sauce, topped with sesame seeds.

This sounds like a menu hack brought to life. Taco John’s is featuring the OM Cheese Quesadilla Taco for a limited time. It’s a grilled chicken taco wrapped in a four-cheese quesadilla.

Panera Bread has new menu items. Ciabatta Dipppers are a sandwich that comes with soup for dipping. There’s the French Dipper with French onion soup and the Spicy Chicken Dipper with tomato soup. Asiago Bagel Stacks come in three flavors: Spicy Steak, Chicken Roma and Zesty Tuscan.


Manicotti dishes are back for a limited time at Olive Garden. Try four-cheese or three-meat offerings.

Hardee’s latest featured specials embrace the flavor of maple. Among the offerings: Maple Biscuit, Maple Sausage Biscuit, Super Maple Bacon Biscuit, Maple Bacon Frisco Burger and the Maple Bacon Snack Pack.

KFC is offering five bowls for $5 each: Famous Bowl and Mac & Cheese Bowl – each with regular or Nashville Hot chicken nuggets — and Nashville Hot Loaded Fries Bowl.

Friday night, A Homestead Brew is releasing a log flume spontaneous fermentation beer that has been aged for two years in an apple brandy barrel. It features the brewery’s hops grown on the farm and forged sumac and wild hops. The release will be at 5 p.m. at the brewery east of Sioux Falls.

Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse has a new THC drink menu. The five drinks feature locally sourced ingredients, including the THC-infused Dakine from A Homestead Brew. Among the offerings are Liquid Eddie, a “playful nod” to candy edibles, and South Dakota Speed Ball, which blends coffee and THC.

If you’ve got the day off from work for Monday’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day — or even if you don’t — Chevys Fresh Mex has a special on margaritas. Get a house margarita for $3 or a Cadillac Margarita for $5. They’re available in regular or fruit flavors.

The Barrel House has new featured drink menus for winter, including cocktails and mocktails.


Changes in hours, service
- Pizza Cheeks will reopen Friday night in The Hello Hi, now serving pizza by the slice only. Hours are 4 p.m. to midnight or until sold out. Work continues to open the new full-service restaurant at 26th and Minnesota.
- Sugar Palace by Emily in Harrisburg will be closed Friday through Jan. 26.
- Fit Revolution Nutrition is open now on Friday nights from 5 to 8 p.m.
