Downtown boutique to close
Jan. 17, 2025
A Phillips Avenue boutique is closing.
Heritage Boutique at 220 S. Phillips Ave. was Chelsea’s Boutique before it rebranded last year.
Then-manager Emma Schulz acquired the business from founder Chelsea Giedd in 2023.
“When I took over this boutique, I never thought I would have to walk away from it a year and a half later. It’s with a heavy heart that I have decided to close the doors,” Schulz wrote in a social media post.
“When I first started out, downtown was the spot to be, and shopping local really resonated amongst the community. I could never have anticipated the change in foot traffic and downtown in general that I’ve seen in 2024. I know the economy plays a huge part, and unfortunately it’s much bigger than I am. So much so, that hanging on through this period is impossible.”
The boutique opened downtown in 2013 and has been in the current location for eight years.
Schulz thanked her team and the Sioux Falls community, which she said welcomed her after she moved here from Rapid City.
“Not being originally from Sioux Falls, it has been the loveliest getting to meet all of the amazing women who have come through my store,” she said.
“And to my team, I cannot express enough how much you all mean to me. You have been the light through this entire journey, and I am forever grateful and forever here for you.”
Sunday is the final day. Regular-priced items are marked down by 50 percent.
