Mary’s Mountain Cookies is adding a second store in Sioux Falls.

The cookie and ice cream shop will be opening in the former Cookie Co. space in a retail center at 69th Street and Cliff Avenue.

Licensed owners Becky and Dave McElroy opened their first store three years ago along the boardwalk at The Cascade at Falls Park, 701 N. Phillips Ave.

“We’ve talked about a second location and just weren’t sure, but with it basically being set up for a cookie shop, it made it handy,” Becky McElroy said.

Like the couple’s first bakery, the new location at 6004 S. Cliff Ave. will offer about 21 flavors of cookies, including seasonal features, plus hand-scooped ice cream, cookie ice cream sandwiches and decorated cookie cakes.

The McElroys also plan to continue operating their “cookie bus” for both public and private events.

The hope is to open the south-side store in March or April, depending on equipment, and start hiring in the next couple of months.

“We may train a little downtown and then move some staff so they’re not totally in chock when they get here,” McElroy said.
