Renovated downtown building aims to attract retail, office uses

July 21, 2021

A vacant downtown building is getting ready for its next stage of life.

The Johnson building at 225 E. 11th St. is the former home of the Sioux Falls Ministry Center.

It has moved to the Empower campus east of there, and Justin Johnson bought the building at the beginning of the year.

He’s also an owner in the nearby TommyJack’s Pub.

The Johnson building is “undergoing a complete remodel,” said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos.

That includes tuck-pointing, new windows and other modernizations, she said.

“Windows are in, demolition is done in the interior, and we’re just waiting for tenants.”

The spaces can range from 1,200 square feet up to the entire building, which is about 39,000 square feet.

“It’s an opportunity for large-scale and small shop space,” Blount said. “We can do retail on the main (floor), we can do office, and the downtown market is so tight this offers flexibility for tenants.”

There has been interest already, she said.

“We’re working on a couple deals right now.”
