Cinnabon opens as airport construction wraps up

Passengers at the Sioux Falls Regional Airport now can get a Cinnabon fix while waiting for a flight.
The kiosk offering cinnamon rolls and other treats from the national restaurant chain has opened on the upper concourse.
It’s part of a larger renovation project upstairs that also includes a new craft beer tasting area.
“And they’re still wrapping up on the end of the concourse with a deli grab-and-go counter,” executive director Dan Letellier said. “You can get a cold sandwich and coffee at 5 a.m. or most importantly a Cinnabon to go with your coffee.”
There’s still some additional work to be done upstairs as supplies and materials have been held up, but most of it — including renovation to the gate areas — is done.
Outside, the airport is beginning improvements to its secondary runway, which is a two- to three-month project, and another one involving upgrades to various taxiways.
“That will run through the first part of October,” Letellier said.
Another expansion project will add capacity for larger snow-removal equipment at the airport’s maintenance building.
And, in preparation for the newly approved parking ramp and skyway, there will be structural reinforcement near the front entrance.
“The front entrance will be closed at least 10 months beginning next summer, along with the main restrooms,” Letellier said. “So we’ll have to get used to some port-a-pottys for travelers.”
The other entrances in front of the ticketing area will remain open.
