Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

PBT, a locally owned sneaker and clothing store, has rebranded and moved into a new location.  Formerly known as PB&Thrift, the store opened in late July at The Bridges at 57th. It’s open daily.

Schmitz Custom Meats has broken ground in Dell Rapids for a processing operation and retail shop.  Owner Steven Schmitz has worked in the industry since he was a teenager. The business is being built in Fiegen Industrial Park at the northwest corner of Garfield Avenue and Quartzite Street. The plan is to open in the spring of 2026.

The restaurant and bar Barn & Barrel has opened in Canistota. The restaurant is designed to be family-friendly, with a barn door separating the dining area from the bar. It opens at 11 a.m. daily, closing at 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Philanthropist Denny Sanford has donated $20 million to build an indoor track and field facility at the University of South Dakota named in honor of the Bill and Jill Gassen family. Bill Gassen is the CEO of Sanford Health. If the project is approved by the South Dakota Board of Regents, the facility will be called the Gassen Family Fieldhouse. The total project cost is estimated at $45 million to $50 million.

Grace Place Farm & Gardens has opened a farm store at 8201 E. 41st St. to sell its produce, eggs, pasture-raised chicken and homemade goods. The store is open from noon to 7 p.m. weekdays.

Construction is underway on the first phase of an estimated $200 million development anchored by the Good Samaritan Society in southeast Sioux Falls. Founder’s Crossing will encompass almost 100 acres on the northeast side of 57th Street and Veterans Parkway, including multiple options for senior living, connected to a Sanford Health clinic and a Lewis Drug store. The first phase will open with about 40 villas in early 2026.

The newest addition to the food court at The Empire Mall serves Indonesian cuisine. Eauthenentic Archipelago Taste, or EAT, is the creation of Grace Prully Ingelin and her family.

Taco Bell has opened at 8340 W. 41st St. It’s the sixth store for franchisee Border Foods in Sioux Falls, the 16th in South Dakota and the 252nd in the upper Midwest.

The city’s first private golf club in more than 60 years has opened northeast of Sioux Falls. Mapleton Golf Club is at 47661 Slip Up Creek Road, across from the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery and along Slip Up Creek. The 18-hole course was developed by Landscapes Unlimited. The clubhouse features a full-service bar and restaurant. Still to come are overnight lodging suites and a six-hole course.

At almost 300,000 square feet and already home to 600 employees, the new Sioux Falls One Stop is state government’s largest office. The four-story building is at 1501 S. Highline Ave. in the Dawley Farm Village development. It combines 21 locations for 12 state agencies into one site.

The new Laundry Evolved in Brandon provides washing, drying and folding services. Customers can choose to drop off clothes at the business at 1302 E. Rushmore Drive or opt for pickup and delivery services.

In Tea, The Laundry Co. is a new self-serve laundromat with nine washers and 12 dryers. It’s open daily at 1500 N. Main Ave. from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.

The Breaks Coffee Roasting Co. is adding a warehouse in central Sioux Falls to help grow its wholesale operations. The small roaster in the coffee shop at 311 E. 12th St. also will remain in service.

Junk in the Trunk has moved from 1918 W. 41st St. to a larger space at 5303 W. 41st St. The locally owned business sells new, used and repurposed furniture. It’s open Tuesday through Sunday.

After more than 80 years of family ownership, Sioux Falls-based Lewis Drug is becoming part of Sanford Health, with the deal expected to close this fall. The regional chain of drug stores and general merchandise stores owned by Mark Griffin has 61 locations across South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota, with about 1,300 employees. The Lewis Drug name will continue as it becomes a business unit of the health care system. Griffin has agreed to stay on through a multiyear transition.

Coffea Roasterie has added a coffee truck to its offerings. The locally owned coffee shop and roaster, which has three locations and a coffee cart for events, turned a 1972 Chevy van into a “vintage-feeling café on wheels.” It’s at the Falls Park Farmers Market every Saturday and is available for public and private events. It offers full espresso service and baked goods.

Longtime downtown retailer Home Porch Gifts at 217 S. Phillips Ave. has closed.
