Coffea Roasterie adds ‘vintage-feeling cafe on wheels’

A locally owned coffee shop and roaster has created a “vintage-feeling cafe on wheels.”
Coffea Roasterie, which has three locations, turned a 1962 Chevy Step Van into a coffee truck, expanding its mobile offerings beyond the coffee cart that it has operated over the years, said Darin Kaihoi, co-owner and CEO.
“We always dreamed of finding the perfect vehicle to outfit and turn into a vintage-feeling cafe on wheels,” he said.
Coffea joined the Falls Park Farmers Market with the truck earlier this month and will be there every Saturday through October and then will be part of the new winter market starting in November, Kaihoi said.
The truck also can be booked for public and private events like “wedding receptions, corporate events, festivals and sporting events, employee appreciation days, and anything that might call for good coffee and a fun experience.”
Customers will find many of their Coffea favorites on the road.
“The menu is pretty classic,” Kaihoi said. “We have a La Marzocco espresso machine to serve up espresso, cappuccinos, lattes and hot chocolates. We also do iced lattes with housemade syrups, along with cold brew and drip coffee. Depending on the event, we’ll collaborate on special menus. Our bakery also is able to bake up fresh pastries like muffins, scones, cookies and cakes.”
The Coffea team had been searching for the right vehicle for some time before seeing the Chevy van on social media.
“Our catering manager Aleks and barista Reese actually discovered it on the same day, so we knew it had some magic to it,” Kaihoi said of the van, which originally was a shuttle at the Colorado State Fairgrounds before making its way to the Midwest. “It happened to be in St. Paul, so we drove out to check it out and fell in love immediately. The seller really loved it and wanted it to go to the right place, and we fit the bill.”
