Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Billie Arthur Design Studio has opened in the headquarters of Furniture Mart USA. The new studio was the final phase of a major expansion and renovation to the building at 140 E. Hinks Lane that included integrating the Ashley and Furniture Mart locations along with more warehouse space and renovated offices. Billie Arthur essentially is a store-within-a-store, carrying new lines of luxury furnishings such as Norwalk Furniture, Four Hands, Hooker Furniture, Bernhardt and Vanguard Furniture. The studio includes special selection suites for personalized, one-on-one experiences.

Watecha Bowl has returned to its roots as a food truck. Lawrence West started the business in early 2020 selling Indian tacos, bison burgers and wojapi with fry bread. He expanded into a brick-and-mortar location in 2021 and eventually quit operating the food truck. The restaurant closed earlier this year, and West bought a food truck to restart that operation. West said he plans to focus on events and catering with occasional pop-ups.

“A sanctuary for the soul” has opened in east Sioux Falls. With an array of services, practitioners, classes and a tea bar, Alchemy House at 5001 E. Grant St. offers a holistic space dedicated to relaxation and transformation. Services include a wellness room with a sauna, foot soak and detox services and a salt room. Independent practitioners range from estheticians and massage therapists to psychic mediums and interior designers. Alchemy House is owned by Jillian Gunlicks and Megan Randall.

After selling Schulte Subaru to a Minnesota-based auto dealer late last year, the Schulte family is back in the auto business — this time with a new concept that revolves around classic, specialty and foreign vehicles. AutoWerks has opened at 1725 Mindy St. in Tea and offers sales, service, restoration, upholstery, tires, paintwork, specialty storage and transportation.

Fazoli’s has closed its west-side location at 4224 W. Empire Place. The quick-serve Italian restaurant opened in 2017, and the franchise group added a stand-alone location at 5120 E. Arrowhead Parkway in 2023. That site remains in business, but the building and equipment are listed for sale through NAI Sioux Falls.

Valvoline Instant Oil Change is building its fifth location in Sioux Falls. The shop will be on the northeast corner of 41st and Ellis. Weather permitting, it’s expected to be open by November.

Two women have expanded from catering for friends and family to cooking for customers at their new food truck. Alondra Jimenez and Lilia Fernandez are the owners of Las Mexicanas Food Truck. Their home base is the parking lot of Runnings at 49th and Western, and they’re typically open Monday through Saturday.

Sioux Falls Ford Lincoln has opened a stand-alone dealership for Lincoln next to the Ford location at 4901 W. 26th St. The new building is mostly show floor, and the new space allows the dealership to participate in the exclusive Lincoln Black Label program. It’s open Monday through Saturday.

Samurai Hibachi & Sushi Express has opened in Harrisburg. The restaurant in the former Harrisburgers building is owned by TJ Anto and Jessica Koenig-Anto. The menu features appetizers, sushi, hibachi entrees and bento boxes. Hours for the restaurant at 106 W. Willow St. are 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and 4 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

Farmhouse Market has closed its storefront, pointing to a challenging economy and the price of rent. The business, which featured merchandise from owners Phil and Kristy Vander Ziel and 10 independent vendors, opened two years ago at 121 S. Franklin Ave. and expanded its space six months later. Farmhouse Market plans to reopen as a vendor within Makers Exchange in Tea in September.

Taco John’s has opened its first location in Tea. The fast-food restaurant is at 106 Venture Place in a strip mall on the northwest corner of the I-29 exit. It’s open daily.

Anytime Fitness will open a gym in Tea. The 6,000-square-foot location will be in a retail center at 106 Venture Place on the northwest corner of the I-29 exit. It’s expected to open in October.

Chick-fil-A is planning a second stand-alone Sioux Falls location. The national chicken restaurant applied for a building permit at 4900 E. Arrowhead Parkway.

Primrose School of Sioux Falls at Heather Ridge began providing early education and child care this week. The first Primrose Schools location in South Dakota is in a new building at 7500 S. Audie Ave., along 85th Street west of Minnesota Avenue. The school can serve up to 176 children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. There are 12 classrooms and three age-appropriate outdoor playgrounds. The franchise owners are Paige and Zachary Berg.
