The grocery store at 4815 S. Louise Ave. has partnered with a fully sustainable, family-owned sushi company to create a section for made-to-order and grab-and-go sushi.

“It’s a really nice display, and I’m excited for what it’s going to offer to the store,” general manager Matt McFarland said. “It’s something we’ve wanted to do for a long time, but we knew because it’s a specialized cuisine we needed to really team up with someone who can deliver the quality we wanted to offer.”

California-based ACE Sushi has been in business for 31 years and “is one of the last family-owned and -operated sushi companies of any scale in the supermarket sushi space,” account manager Elizabeth Wilmoth said.

“What sets ACE apart from competitors is our innovation and having a finger on the pulse of the ever-evolving Asian cuisine category.”

ACE Sushi now has a designated micro-market alongside Pomegranate Market’s smoothie and juice bar. It’s part of the store’s food service zone, which also includes its own bistro, soup and salad bar, and offerings from other local food companies.

“There will be a live sushi chef working every day,” McFarland said. “When the chef is here, you can place a custom order, and there also will be a large grab-and-go option. I was impressed by how much they offer on their menu. It will be a combination of different rolls and pieces, but you’ll also be able to order directly from the chef.”

The quality stands out, he added.

“I’m a big sushi fan myself, and what impressed me the most about them is what they offered conveniently in a grocery setting that’s equal to what you’d get in a quality sushi restaurant,” McFarland said. “What’s exciting to me is that now someone running to the store has access to this cuisine, but it also opens the door for guests or groups to come in specifically for that unique eating experience.”

ACE Sushi and Pomegranate Market are a good match because of their common commitment “to natural ingredients, providing quality service and creating innovative products,” Wilmoth said. “Customers can expect 100 percent sustainable seafood, all-natural ingredients and a very innovative approach to menu mix.”

ACE also will offer catering trays for events and made-to-order sushi. Beginning Oct. 11, there will be a weekly $6 Wednesday promotion on select sushi offerings.

“We’re excited to have such a very strong, different food option,” McFarland said. “Sushi is something a lot of people are looking for, and to be able to get a product like this in a convenient setting we think is going to be a huge win for our store.”
