Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Josephine’s Floral Designery has closed after almost 40 years in business. It started in downtown Sioux Falls and moved to a retail center at 6221 S. Western Ave. three years ago. Owner Josephine Schallenkamp said she plans to focus on her health and family.
Canopy by Hilton has opened downtown at The Steel District. The seven-story hotel at 120 E. Fourth Place has 216 rooms. It includes the full-service restaurant Cascata, offering breakfast, lunch and dinner with an Italian-inspired menu. The main lobby includes Torrent Coffee Bar. The hotel has 20,000 square feet of meeting space, including the Legacy ballroom.
Holmes Murphy, one of the nation’s largest independent insurance brokerages, has moved from 5120 S. Solberg Ave. into its new office at The Steel District. It’s located on the third floor of the downtown development’s office tower at 150 E. Fourth Place. For now, about 40 people are working out of the office, with room to add 30 more.
Silencer Central is adding a 60,000-square-foot warehouse and distribution center adjacent to the headquarters at 4901 N. Fourth Ave. to accommodate its growth in sales of firearm suppressors. The building also will include a gun range to test its products. Construction is expected to be done in September 2025.
Hallmark has returned to Sioux Falls. The national gift retailer has opened at 4113 W. 41st St. at Empire Place, the retail center in front of The Empire Mall. It’s open daily.
National furniture retailer Lovesac is expanding to Sioux Falls. The business, which specializes in a patented modular furniture system called Sactionals, plans to open in early 2025 at The Empire Mall. It will take three smaller spaces at center court where Rogers Jewelers used to be.
Montgomery’s is expanding on 41st Street with the purchase of the former Conlin’s Furniture property. The building at 1703 W. 41st St. will be renovated and connected to the Montgomery’s showroom complex. Construction is set to begin in 2025, with the renovated space opening later in the year. The expanded showroom will include a lighting gallery, additional flooring and window treatment spaces, as well as a budget center. Conlin’s closed in late September after 48 years in Sioux Falls.
Oregon-based The Human Bean is expanding to the market, thanks to local franchisee Elizabeth Menke. The 600-square-foot location that’s expected to open in the spring will offer drive-thru and walk-up service at 2801 E. Jackson St., not far from 69th and Southeastern. The menu includes specialty-grade coffee, real-fruit smoothies, whole-leaf teas, a proprietary energy drink and hot breakfast items, including sandwiches and bagels.
Tata’s Trading Card Co. has opened in a retail center in Brandon at 517 N. Splitrock Blvd. It’s owned by the husband-and-wife team of Johnny Than and Jessica Eck, who also own the Cheezy Noodlez Gourmet Mac & Cheeze food truck. The store, which is open Monday through Saturday, sells new and collectible sports cards in addition to Pokemon, the One Piece series and Magic: The Gathering.
