Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.
An employee at Woofs & Waves and his wife have bought the pet and aquarium supplies store at 5426 E. Arrowhead Parkway. Austin and Morgan Weber also own Lucky Pup Adventures, a dog-walking and pet-sitting service, and Aquarium Keepers, which sets up, cleans and services fish tanks.
The USD Discovery District held a grand opening and ribbon cutting for its first building earlier this month. It’s a 50,000-square-foot build-to-suit office and research facility at 4600 W. Nobel St. Among the first tenants are the South Dakota Small Business Development Center, Prairie Family Business Association and OmegaQuant.
The Christian Youth Activity League has found a permanent space for its programs. The building at 601 W. 43rd St. will be called The Academy and will host basketball games and other sporting events, along with providing space for training and faith-based gatherings. The organization was founded in 1997 and has been using school gyms in the Sioux Falls area for practices and programming.
Egg on a Roll has opened at The Bridges at 57th. It’s a grab-and-go egg sandwich concept that started in Minneapolis and features a souffle-style egg rather than the typical scrambled egg patty or fried egg. The shop at 5005 S. Western Ave. doesn’t have seating and encourages customers to order online in advance. It’s open from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
McNally’s Irish Pub is coming back with new owners. Founder Nicki Ellerbroek started the bar and restaurant in 2006 at 6211 S. Old Village Place but closed it late last year while still trying to find a buyer. The new ownership group hopes to reopen it later this spring with an expanded menu.
A Mexican grocery store has opened in the former Andy’s Affiliated Foods building at 1025 S. Cleveland Ave. El Mexicano No. 7 is owned by Efrain Patino of Worthington, Minnesota, who also has stores there and in South Sioux City and Omaha. It features a meat counter, fresh produce, baked goods, grab-and-go prepared foods and typical grocery store items.
The owners of Weller Brothers Landscape Professionals have acquired the pool construction and services divisions of Combined Pool and Spa. The newly acquired divisions will operate as Parklane Pool Co. Combined Pool and Spa will retain its spa and retail division.
Hibachi Grill & Supreme Buffet is closed temporarily and is hiring for several positions after at least three people connected to the restaurant at 1100 W. 41st St. were arrested on charges of harboring illegal workers.
Forever 21 in The Empire Mall has closed. The retailer announced in February that it was closing about two-thirds of its 359 stores in the U.S., including the location in Sioux Falls. The company filed for bankruptcy in March and plans to close all remaining stores by May 1 unless a buyer is found.
