Longtime local business Josephine’s Floral Designery is closing.

Owner Josephine Schallenkamp opened the business in 1985 and moved it from downtown Sioux Falls to The Wedge on Western Avenue south of 69th Street three years ago.

A closing date has not been set but likely will be midweek next week.

In a social media message, Schallenkamp thanked the customers who “have helped support my dream of providing beauty for life’s events, whether it’s a wedding, a ‘thinking of you,’ birthday, a celebration of life, anniversary or anything in between,” she said.

“Each and everyone one of our creations was made with love, and I have felt honored to be a part of each moment I could help you with. I cannot thank you enough for your support, trust and belief in a small business.”

Schallenkamp said she views the closure as the beginning of “a new chapter” and plans to focus on her health and family.

Until the store at 6221 S. Western Ave. closes, inventory has been marked 50 percent off. Furniture and fixtures also are for sale if businesses are interested in them.
