The east-side location of The Keg has closed four months after switching to takeout and delivery only. The restaurant at 5216 E. Arrowhead Parkway opened in 2020. The owners decided not to renew the lease, noting struggles with staffing. The west-side Keg at 4211 W. 12th St. remains open.

A new business, Dakota Sauna Co., offers pop-up sauna and cold-plunge sessions. The traditional experience is to spend five to 15 minutes in the sauna, do a cold plunge for 30 seconds up to a few minutes and then repeat. The owners say that cycle provides health benefits.

The owner of the former Kabab King food truck and restaurant has started a food truck with a new name. King of Gyros is focused on festivals and weekend bar crowds. In addition to lamb, beef and chicken gyros, the menu includes shawarma, chislic and fries.

Casa del Rey will reopen under new ownership. Janet Eining and her family are taking over the business, which closed at the end of July, from Cory O’Brien, who retired. The restaurant at 901 W. Russell St. is expected to open by mid-September.

A second location for Mr. Donuts has opened at 1010 E. 10th St., taking advantage of the larger kitchen to shift baking for wholesale accounts there. Minnesota Ave. It’s open daily at 5 a.m., closing at noon Monday through Thursday and 2 p.m. the other days.

A new owner is reopening some of the rue21 clothing stores, including one in The Empire Mall, that closed earlier this year as part of a bankruptcy filing. The company was acquired by YM Inc., which is the parent company of other teen and young adult retailers such as Aeropostale and Charlotte Russe. It’s expected to reopen sometime this fall.

Vibrant Minds Learning Center has opened in the former Apple Tree location at 4101 W. Valhalla Ave. It’s owned by Mitch and Ashley Gray and can serve up to 123 children age 6 weeks through 5 years.

Urban Air, the world’s largest indoor adventure park, is opening a Sioux Falls location. It will be in the former Hobby Lobby space on West 41st Street next to Party America. While attractions vary by location, Urban Air parks typically have more than 20 interactive activities for all ages, including trampolines, laser tag, bumper cars and climbing walls. An opening timeline hasn’t been announced.

A locally owned, original concept that featured chislic has closed after six years in business. The owners of Urban Chislic at 431 W. 85th St. said they “decided to cut our losses.”

Two restaurants in The Empire Mall food court, Jacky’s and Camille’s Sidewalk Cafe, have closed. Both have other locations on West 41st Street.

Pasque Boutique and Alcove, a museum store for the Washington Pavilion, have opened at The Steel District. The openings mark the first retail occupants on the ground level of the downtown building with apartments, condominiums and a parking ramp above. Pasque is open daily, and Alcove is open Wednesday through Saturday.

National Halloween retailers have opened their seasonal locations. Spirit Halloween is at 1413 W. 41st St., and Halloween Express is at 2721 W. 41st St. Both stores are open daily.
