Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

Down Home by DeBoers, a home furnishings business from HGTV hosts Cole and Chelsea DeBoer, has opened in Tea. It’s located at 108 Venture St. in the same retail center as Starbucks — just west of the Tea exit on Interstate 29. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Lindsey McCann and Micah Jastram have purchased Rehfeld’s Art & Framing at 431 N. Phillips Ave. from Jerry Cook, who bought it from Larry Rehfeld in 2019. They have renamed the business Rehfelds Modern Fine Art & Framing to focus on contemporary art.

Midwestern Mechanical has become 100 percent employee-owned through an employee stock ownership program. Dwayne Klarenbeek started the business in 1983 out of his home in Larchwood, Iowa. Today, Midwestern Mechanical is a 330-person, four-office company that provides plumbing, fire protection and HVAC services, supporting residential and commercial projects across South Dakota, Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska.

The Canopy by Hilton hotel under construction at The Steel District in downtown Sioux Falls has announced that its full-service restaurant, Cascata, will feature Italian food. The coffee shop will be called Torrent. The goal is to open the 216-room hotel in October.

Pizza Ranch is closing its location in Canton. The last day will be May 31.

Donna Kuper has opened a storefront in Dell Rapids for Paparazzi jewelry, which she has sold for eight years. The Jewelry Box is at 416 E. Fourth St. in the same building as her other business, Kuper Complete Accounting.

Avera Health plans to add a six-story women’s and children’s services building and three-story digestive health building on two campuses in Sioux Falls, totaling $245 million in new investment. The tower for women’s and children’s hospital services will replace Plaza 3 on the campus of Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center and will create a new entrance to the hospital. Construction is scheduled to start this summer with projected completion in early 2027.  A three-story digestive health building will be built at the Avera on Louise campus. It will be connected via underground tunnel to Avera Specialty Hospital, which will be focused solely on orthopedics once the project is completed in early 2026. Construction is scheduled to start this summer.

A consignment store for artists, makers and crafters has opened at 2119 S. Minnesota Ave. AMC Collective, owned by Carrie Thompson, has room for about 40 vendors. It’s open Tuesday through Saturday.

Aerostar has moved its office and production operations into a new building at The Docks, a 52-acre industrial development in northwest Sioux Falls. Aerostar makes stratospheric balloons and the navigation systems to operate them.

Real Deals, which specializes in budget-friendly home decor and women’s fashions, has opened at 2001 W. 41st St. The franchised location is owned by Janessa Wilson. It’s open Thursday through Saturday.

A downtown bakery that features alcohol-infused and regular baked goods is moving temporarily to The Empire Mall. Intoxibakes left the Jones421 Building and is taking over the former Great American Cookies space while it looks for a permanent location. It’s expected to open Wednesday and also will feature Candy Cloud Factory cotton candy and SDSU Ice Cream.

Kwik Star is building four additional locations in the Sioux Falls area. The Wisconsin-based C-store and gas station chain plans to open two locations in August: in Sioux Falls at 85th Street and Bergamot Avenue and in Harrisburg at Minnesota Avenue and Tom Sawyer Trail. Northwest Sioux Falls will see a new location in late September at Madison Street and Ebenezer Avenue. In mid-October, Kwik Star will open in northeast Sioux Falls at Madison and Finnegan Avenue.

Chuck E. Cheese at 2600 S. Louise Ave. has closed. The kid-friendly arcade and pizza chain opened here in 2001.

Levo Credit Union has received approval to expand its service area to 29 counties stretching along the Interstate 29 corridor from Sioux City to Fargo. The credit union has served the Sioux Falls area since 1934. The expansion will begin with online services. Eventually, Levo plans to open branches in several communities.

Blue Tide Car Wash has opened its third tunnel location in Sioux Falls. The new operation is on the east side of Dawley Farm Village at 5921 E. 18th St. The business also has several touchless car washes at Get-n-Go gas stations.

Bob and Jenna Harris have opened a Brothers Who Just Do Gutters franchise that will serve the Sioux Falls area. The business offers gutter cleaning, repair and installation services. They can be reached at 605-601-8050 or through brothersgutters.com/sioux-falls-sd.
