Intoxibakes to relocate to Empire Mall

March 28, 2024

A downtown bakery that features alcohol-infused and regular baked goods is moving temporarily to The Empire Mall.

Intoxibakes is taking over the former Great American Cookies space near the Sanford Children’s Play Area, co-owner Holly Jorgenson said. She owns the bakery with her daughter, Josie Layton, and daughter-in-law Shannon Johnson. They’ve signed a month-to-month lease and are looking for a permanent home for the business, which they started in 2017.

On Saturday, they’ll move their equipment out of the Jones421 Building, which has been the bakery’s home for five years, and will reopen “hopefully by Wednesday” in the mall, Jorgenson said.

The women also own Candy Cloud Factory, and the new space in the mall will serve as a second location for it, selling cotton candy and SDSU Ice Cream in addition to the Intoxibakes baked goods. It won’t offer the candy merchandise that Candy Cloud recently expanded into because of the nearby candy shop in the mall, Jorgenson said.

The amount of bakery items will be somewhat limited because there’s room for only one display case instead of the current two, she said.

The bakery will continue to do custom and wedding cake orders in the temporary home.

Hours will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The shop is offering 20 percent off baked goods through Friday.
