Mother’s Day gifts mingle with ornamental mushrooms at the newly opened Real Deals, while necklaces and earrings glitter from a wall display and clothing just begs to be worn.

The retailer, the first Real Deals location to open in Sioux Falls, specializes in affordable merchandise. It is located at 2001 W. 41st St.

Other Real Deals stores in South Dakota are found in Rapid City and Spearfish. The first of what later became known as Real Deals on Home Decor opened in one room and a hallway in Twin Falls, Idaho, in 2004.

Janessa Wilson, owner of the franchised store here, became familiar with Real Deals and its budget-friendly home decor and women’s fashions when she lived in Idaho. Her store will offer “something for everyone,” she said. That includes clothing in sizes small to 3X that will attract women from teenagers to those who have retired.

Items of apparel will be limited in number, Wilson said, so if customers see something they like, they shouldn’t hesitate.

It’s a little different with the home decor, she said. While the displays will change every week, sometimes it is possible to replace a certain style when it runs out.

Real Deals offers home decor that can be on display no matter the season, Wilson said. It also has seasonal displays. Since it’s spring, the shelves at Real Deals offer plenty of planters and whimsical items like frogs that “will bring in the sunshine.” As the weeks go on, the items will be replaced by displays for the Fourth of July.

A Mother’s Day gift area also is on display near a well-stocked kitchen area. Artificial greenery is always popular because it brings a house to life, Wilson said.

A large display of necklaces and earrings makes Real Deal a one-stop shop for those looking to change their wardrobe, Wilson said.

She has hired a complete staff for Real Deals, although she’s always willing to talk with interested prospective employees who are experienced and familiar with Real Deals.

The first 50 customers today, Friday and Saturday will receive a surprise, and those who bring in the postcards that were mailed out will be entered in a drawing for a gift basket.

Wilson said she is excited to open Real Deals.

“The support from the community has been great,” she said. “Sioux Falls likes to support those who are local.”

Store hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays.
