Here’s a look at recent changes in the business landscape in the Sioux Falls area.

A four-story boutique hotel and entertainment venue are part of a major development planned in Harrisburg. The development group envisions the 11-acre project, which is south of Country Apple Orchard and adjacent to The Meadow Barn and The Veranda, as a downtown- or lifestyle center-inspired setting. The balance of the property would include multiple commercial buildings that could be retail centers, restaurants or other services. Construction of the hotel is expected to begin this year.

9999 Boba has expanded to Brandon. The shop sells milk and fruit teas in a variety of flavors with bursting boba and jelly pearls that can be added. It’s open daily at 1302 E. Rushmore Drive, across the street from the high school.

Sioux Falls-based McKinneyOlson Insurance has joined Minnesota-based North Risk Partners, which is one of the largest independent insurance brokers and risk advisory firms in the Midwest. North Risk has consolidated its Sioux Falls office into the McKinneyOlson office at 7001 S. Lyncrest Place. McKinneyOlson also is maintaining its office in Brandon.

Combine, a clothing and home store based in Minneapolis, is expanding to downtown Sioux Falls. It will be in The Bancorp Building at Cherapa Place and is expected to open in the summer. Founder Mike Pickart, a Sioux Falls native, describes it as “kind of like an elevated general store of things you need in your life.”

Farmhouse Market, which includes several vendors selling handmade goods, has expanded less than a year after opening in downtown Sioux Falls. The additional space at 121 S. Franklin Ave. doubles the business in size and includes a classroom for make-and-take projects. It’s open Wednesday through Sunday.

A plant-based restaurant in downtown Sioux Falls is closing but will continue to operate its food truck. ‘Brosia Bowl’s last day in business in the first-floor marketplace of the Jones421 Building will be Friday.

Sioux Falls-based Direct Companies has acquired Iowa-based New Covenant Consulting, now named Direct Design & Fabrication. The company makes electrical and mechanical systems. Direct Companies’ services include process and machine automation, custom software and data management, phone systems, managed IT and security systems.

A pair of businesses owned by a husband and wife are bringing new services to Harrisburg. PhysioLife 605, owned by Trever Wagner, and Bare Skin Aesthetics + Wellness, owned by Ashley Wagner, offer a holistic approach to healing through physical therapy and medical aesthetics. They share a space in a retail center at 220 S. Cliff Ave.

A former bank building in Worthing is being transformed into a taco shop that will showcase artists and serve as a community gathering space. Dean Marshall, who owned The Big Orange Food Truck, and former employee Austin Metivier are starting The Taco Vault. They hope to open in early May.

Sinan Taskin has moved his gifts and collectibles business, now called Wonderland, into an open space in the center court of The Empire Mall. Two other businesses in the mall have moved into different spaces. GNC is next to Lauriebelles boutique near the children’s play area, and Go Calendars Toys & Games is near JCPenney.

College student Maddie Leasure has started Mav’s Market, which sells pet supplies online and at pop-up markets. The inventory includes treats, toys, accessories and supplements.

605 Running Co. has opened its second location. The running gear retailer is in the former Posh Boutique space at The Bridges at 57th along Western Avenue.

Dakota Sports and Daubys Sports Center have merged to form a joint company, MRG Hauff. The stores continue to operate under the original brand names.
