Sioux Falls firm close to winning Race for Research

July 13, 2018

Here’s your chance to help a Sioux Falls company compete for funds to benefit childhood cancer research.

The Sioux Falls Northwestern Mutual office is trying to become repeat champions in the Race for Research created by Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and the Northwestern Mutual Foundation.

It benefits childhood cancer research and helps families with travel costs while their children are going through treatment.

The Sioux Falls team won the contest last year and gave the grant to Sanford pediatric cancer researcher Dr. Sam Milanovich.

To win again, they must outperform other firms nationwide. Sioux Falls has raised more than $5,700 during the race period, hosting a lemonade stand at KSFY’s Fridays on the Plaza events and doing office events, challenges and other activities.

The firm is in first place but a challenger has a big fundraiser planned, so the Sioux Falls office is hoping for continued giving here.

Heavy rain forced KSFY to cancel Friday’s event, so the Northwestern staff is planning a last-minute effort. They will host a freewill- donation barbecue featuring the lemonade stand from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in the firm’s parking lot at 2307 W. 57th St.

The contest runs through July 20. To contribute to the Sioux Falls effort online, click here.
