Restaurant Roundup: New taco of the month, featured menus, brunches

The new Dahlia Kitchen + Bar at The Steel District now features a Taco of the Month. February’s offering is a barbecue brisket taco topped with Southwest slaw and crispy pickled fried onions.

Neighboring Big Sioux Burger has added wine to its daily happy hours. For $5, get a glass of house wine, including pinot grigio, sauvignon blanc, chardonnay, pinot noir and cabernet sauvignon. Happy hours run daily from 8 to 11 a.m. and 3 to 6 p.m. Other discounts are $4 taps and domestic bottles, two-for-one seltzers and $4 rail drinks.

Saturday brunch features at R Wine Bar & Kitchen are headed into their second month with new offerings. February’s dishes are a Greek omelet and syrniki, which are pancakes with fresh berries, strawberry compote and sour cream. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Last week’s Sunday brunch went over so well at Umami Cafe & Catering that it’s offering another one this weekend. This time, the buffet will feature Italian food with entrees like chicken marsala with penne pasta, almond caper gremolata braised brisket and lemon garlic shrimp risotto, with freshly baked focaccia, tiramisu cheesecake bars and more. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The buffet price is $20, or $10 for those younger than 12. Large groups can call 605-413-3346 for reservations to use one of the conference rooms for seating.

Chef Lance’s on Phillips is helping everyone celebrate Valentine’s Day on any day in February — except for a sold-out event on the actual day — with the a Cupid’s three-course menu.

Now that the Downtown Burger Battle has freed up everyone’s lives, updated menus have been introduced at Chef Lance’s on Phillips. There are several new items, including the Santa Fe Smothered Burrito and Chicken & Waffles for lunch and the Boursin Filet & Grits and French Rack of Lamb for dinner. Pizzas from Sunny’s Pizzeria are available now in Brandon. They’re being served as Kingbird Coffee. 

Baking up a Storm has a new lunch menu with soup, sandwiches and wraps. The items are in addition to all the baked good offerings in the bakery inside The Blu on Lorraine.

Here’s what the bakery is offering next week for Valentine’s specials. The strawberry cake price is by the slice.

The new feature menu at Roundhouse Brew Pub puts an American twist on European flavors.

Maribella Ristorante’s specials for February are Malfatti, which are spinach and ricotta dumplings served on a bed of house-made pomodoro sauce with crispy pancetta. The dessert, Bonet, is a chocolate and caramel custard with amaretti, espresso and rum flavors, topped with sugar glass shards.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips had to quit serving during a visit to Sioux Falls last month because of a licensing issue, but it’s back Saturday in the parking lot of the west-side Menards. Hours are 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Jack Rose Social Club has crafted Valentine’s cocktail specials that are available all month.

JJ’s Bar has created a winter cocktail menu featuring Green Envy, Figgy-Flirty-and Thriving, Love in the Clouds, Mr. Bendo’s Bourbon Kiss, Sour Love Affair and Cocoa Cupid.

Brioux Falls in the officer tower at The Steel District is offering three special drinks to celebrate the season of love. Cupid’s Whip – strawberry cold foam — also is available for any drink.

Valentine’s Special drinks and desserts are available all month at Johnny Carino’s.

Scooter’s Coffee has crafted the new Strawberry Sweetheart Mocha for the season and brought back the Red Velvet Cake Bite.

February’s menu at Zooks Coffee Bar in Tea includes the Chocolate Covered Strawberry Macchiato, Cherry Mocha Latte, the Buzzed drink Cupid’s Bouquet with an edible flower to top it off and I Love You Berry Matcha with a blend of raspberry and strawberry.

Kingbird Coffee in Brandon has a featured drink menu for February and new boba drinks in five flavors: Sunset, Peach Mango Zing, Big Island, Kiwi Kiss and Antigua Island.

If you’re a member of Ziggi’s Rewards, the coffee chain is celebrating its Season of Love campaign through Feb. 14. Members receive a new deal each day — everything from discounts to free treats. Plus, one lucky member will win free Ziggi’s for an entire year.

The monthly $6 margarita at Chili’s Grill & Bar is the StrawEddy with Lunazul Blanco Tequila, Deep Eddy Lemon Vodka, strawberry puree and housemade sour.

Most bars are offering food and drink specials Sunday for the Super Bowl game, but here’s a buffet that seemed worth mentioning. Lucky’s on Louise is putting on a pizza, pasta and breadstick buffet for $20. All-day happy hour specials are $15 for domestic buckets, $12 domestic pitchers and $5 two-for-one well drinks.

As a pick-me-up after Sunday’s big game, Starbucks is giving Rewards members a free tall hot or iced coffee on Monday.

THC drinks are booming in popularity, so JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars is offering a chance to try them for free. The THC Expo will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in The Event Room at JJ’s. Wholesale partners will be there with products, and The Boozy Bakery will have a few samples too. RSVP here.

The Cattitude Cafe is hosting a mixer for singles on Feb. 13 with games, snacks and kitties. Hours are 7 to 9 p.m. Tickets are $15 online or $20 at the door. It’s also raising money to support the homeless cats awaiting adoption with the Dump Your Ex campaign through Valentine’s Day. Donate $20, and the cafe will write your ex’s name on a bag of cat poop and dump it in the trash.

Changes in hours, service

  • Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen has adjusted hours: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday through Monday.
  • The Sioux Falls Food Co+op is remodeling its hot bar, so it will be closed Saturday and Sunday. The grab-and-go case will be fully stocked instead.
  • The Hello Hi is closed on Mondays in February for staff training and celebrating.
  • Tailgators Grill & Bar in Brandon has private events this weekend that will lead to limited hours. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
  • The Taco Vault in Worthing has new hours: 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
  • Zooks Coffee Bar in Tea has new hours: 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
