Downtown Sioux Falls announces Pork Showdown champion

Crawford’s Bar & Grill has a double win for the year in downtown food competitions, taking home the title of champion in the annual Downtown Pork Showdown.

The winning dish, Pork Wellington, is a pork tenderloin with jalapeno bacon and braised mushrooms wrapped in flaky puff pastry. It’s accompanied by boursin mashed potatoes, asparagus and carrots and finished with strawberry pepper jam.

The win marks the second victory for Crawford’s this year after bringing home January’s Downtown Burger Battle trophy.

The winning Pork Wellington made up 498 of the pork dishes purchased this year in the third annual competition, sponsored by Smithfield Foods. There were 1,211 votes cast.

In second place was Maribella Ristorante with a Duroc pork chop and Chef Lance’s on Phillips with a pork au gratin following in third place.

“The competition was fierce this year, and Crawford’s is a great representative of the amazing food scene in downtown,” said Tenley Schwartz, marketing director of Downtown Sioux Falls Inc., which organized the competition.Their team does an incredible job of creating good food and creating a welcoming environment.”

The Downtown Pork Showdown  generated 5,718 pork dishes sold, resulting in an estimated $173,541 economic impact for the Sioux Falls community in the four-week promotion.

Crawford’s will keep the traveling trophy until next September’s competition.
