Shenanigans announces expansion to downtown

Feb. 5, 2025

Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill is opening a downtown location.

The longtime bar and grill is opening at The Cascade at Falls Park, 701 N. Phillips Ave., in the former Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza space.

Shenanigans also has a location at 1903 S. Ellis Road that changed hands early this year and now is owned by Paul Ode. Ode and his family are involved in a number of restaurants, including Crawford’s and Wagoo Burger in downtown Sioux Falls, along with a future concept coming to 202 S. Phillips Ave.

Papa Woody’s closed late last year.

“For us, there’s no traditional sports bar downtown, and that’s what we want,” Ode said. “If the Vikings are playing or SDSU is playing, you’ll hear the commentary over the speakers. … That’s what got us excited about finding a spot, and this worked out.”

The menu will be similar to the west side — think “pizza, beer, wings and burgers” — but likely will have some unique items.

“We like the fact that there’s families down there,” Ode said. “It might be a sports bar, but a huge part of our business on the west side is families.”

The layout of the space in the mixed-use building is being opened up, and there will be some cosmetic changes, he said. The hope is to be open by St. Patrick’s Day.

“We’re going to do what we can,” Ode said. “We want to be a place that helps drive more business in the building, and we’re going to be neighborly to do what we can for everybody.”

With the lease, there now are three spaces available at The Cascade. Another new business, The Maker’s Circle, plans to open this spring, offering handmade items, make-and-take activities and art classes.

The area is primed for additional activity, said Raquel Blount of Lloyd Cos., who has the available spaces listed.

“Spring is coming, and the park is going to open (at Jacobson Plaza), and now that we have The Steel District restaurants and the River Greenway, it’s going to be so busy there and rejuvenate the entire area,” she said.
