Restaurant Roundup: New desserts, halal pizza, Easter brunches

DaDa Gastropub has several new desserts, and you can try several in bite-sized servings. Get one bite for $4, three for $12 or five for $15. There’s everything from brownie pops and tarts to ube cake and cannoli cream puffs.

New menu items for spring have arrived at Crooked Pint Ale House. Appetizers include Cajun onion rings, beer-battered walleye strips and bourbon molasses green beans. New wing flavors are garlic vinegar and CP Kickin’ BBQ. There’s a new Herby Chicken Salad, Crispy Chicken Sandwich, Cheesesteak Lucy, Pickle Lucy, Golden BBQ Pork Flatbread and Salisbury Steak.

Khorasan Kabob House has a new menu item during Ramadan: handcrafted halal artisan pizzas. They come in four varieties: beef, chicken, gyro or veggie. Get a large for $14.

Falls Overlook Cafe is keeping its Rise and Dine – DJ Beats and Brunch running at least through April 13. The plated brunch is served from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays, and the drink menu includes mimosas and bloody marys. Make reservations by sending an email to [email protected].

The spring menu has arrived at Coffea Roasterie. All cafes are serving Neapolitan, Lavender and Jade Tea lattes. At the Louise Avenue coffee shop, you’ll also find the Hot Honey Latte and Razzle Dazzle, a twist on a raspberry sour cocktail. New treats include Lemon Blueberry Loaf and Peanut Butter Cinnamon Oatmeal Cookie.

Uppercut Lounge is bringing small-town bar fun to the city. It’s hosting minnow races Friday. Sign-up starts at 5 p.m. with the races at 7 p.m. The entry fee is $5, and the winner takes all.

Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet is having a fundraiser Saturday to feed hungry kids in the Gaza Strip and Sioux Falls. All proceeds from the restaurant’s lunch buffet will go to World Central Kitchen and its efforts to provide meals in Rafah and to pay for school lunches for children who need them in Sioux Falls. Hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Chef Omar Thornton is doing a pop-up demonstration and sale of jambalaya from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday at Cooks & Bakers Kitchen at Dawley Farm Village. Enjoy a sample or a bowl for $5.

A Homestead Brew is having one of its signature beer branding events Saturday. Stop out from 2 to 9 p.m., and have a beer by the fire. Sticking a hot stainless steel rod into a beer caramelizes it and changes the flavor into “something new and spectacular.” And you can get a bite to eat: The brewery east of Sioux Falls near the Iowa border is hosting Cheezy Noodlez Gourmet Mac & Cheeze from 4 to 7 p.m. Note: The food truck and hours have been updated since this was first posted. 

Jersey Mike’s Subs is celebrating its Month of Giving in March by collecting donations in support of local charities. On Wednesday, the Day of Giving, 100 percent of all sales will go to those causes.

Taco Bell is increasing its focus on chicken with five new Cantina Chicken menu items. The seasoned, slow-roasted chicken comes in a crispy taco, soft taco, quesadilla, burrito and bowl. There’s also a new Avocado Verde Salsa that comes with the Cantina Chicken items. It features tomatillos, green chile peppers and avocado.

Lobsterfest is back at Red Lobster with five new dishes and seven fan favorites. Additions include Crispy Lobster & Shrimp Stack, Lobster & Shrimp Lover’s Dream, Dueling Southern Tails, Lobster Lover’s Duo and Lobster Flatbread.

Wendy’s has a new limited-time Frosty flavor: Orange Dreamsicle. It has replaced vanilla for spring, but the Classic Chocolate Frosty is still available. “We continue to see so much passion from our customers to try new, seasonal Frosty flavors. With Orange Dreamsicle Frosty, we’re building even more Frosty fandom with our first ever spring-inspired Frosty flavor,” said Lindsay Radkoski, U.S. chief marketing officer for The Wendy’s Company. “Orange Dreamsicle Frosty delivers sweet nostalgia in every bite.”

Each week, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers is highlighting one of its new burgers as a $12 special with a bottomless side. This week is the Scorpion, which has scorpion pepper sauce and crispy jalapenos.

The new Inflation Buster special at Chick N Max is two jumbo drumsticks for $5.

Big J’s Roadhouse in Humboldt is serving a buffet from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prices are $35 for adults and $16 for kids 7-12.

Blue Rock Bar & Grill is serving a buffet. Reservations are required for spots at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. or 1 p.m.

Great Shots is placing 15,000 treat-filled eggs on Field 3. Special golden eggs will have “eggs-traordinary prizes.” Kids 10 and younger can participate. The Good Earth Farm near Lennox is having a free Easter egg hunt and selling pizzas and drinks Saturday, March 30. The farm will be open from 10:15 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the hunt begins at 11 a.m. It’s asking people to reserve tickets for planning purposes.

Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery is offering take-and-bake meals and bakery specials. Orders must be placed by noon Wednesday.

SoDak Soda has created “Just Add Ice” drink packages. Choose from any drink combination on the menu or create your own – except for those with fruit or coconut cream. Get one for $5 or three for $12. Orders must be placed in the shop by Wednesday for pickup March 28-30.

Chef April Cakes, Confections & Celebrations has sweets and soups for reheating. Order by 6 p.m. Tuesday. 

The Smoked Culture BBQ & Brews is offering family servings for pickup on March 30 or 31. Order by Wednesday. 

One Smart Cookie and Bourne Family Bakery are having an Easter cookie pop-up shop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. March 30 at 4916 E. Fernwood Drive. There’s also an online shop for orders that must be placed by the end of day Friday. Note: The address for the pop-up has changed.

Baking up a Storm has an Easter menu.

Queen City Bakery’s Easter menu is available on its website. Pre-order by March 28 for pickup March 30 or 31.

LaDelle and Fourth Coffeehouse in Dell Rapids is selling its traditional take-and-bake cinnamon rolls and half-gallon iced lattes. Get a half-dozen for $14, a dozen for $25 and any latte flavor for $22. Pre-order by Monday for pickup March 29-30. Call 605-428-4747.

Changes in hours, service

  • TapHouse 41 is bringing back Monday hours starting next week. The bar that serves burgers, craft beer and bourbon is open from  11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Burger Time has extended closing time to 9 p.m. daily.
  • Central Dakota Perk in Harrisburg is starting spring/summer hours Monday: 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays, 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday.
  • Chevy’s Fresh Mex will be closed after 3 p.m. Sunday and all day Monday for small repairs.
