A Sioux Falls business has made it to the “showcase showdown.”

The Porch Swing Store had some of its products featured as prizes on “The Price is Right” this week.

The show’s final “showcase showdown” package included items to help with a party and featured a backyard full of fun with several brightly colored Adirondack chairs from The Porch Swing Store.

The chairs feature a contoured seat and back, and are made from UV-inhibited HDPE plastic “for superior fade resistant and maximum performance in all weather conditions,” according to the company’s website.

The high-density polyethylene raw material is derived from “post-consumer bottle waste products such as used milk jugs,” it said.

Incidentally, one chair retails for just over $500. The showcase, which included a Toyota SUV, ended up being won even though the contestant missed his guess by more than $20,000 because the other contestant overbid his showcase.

While Porch Swing Store owner Jordan Van Maanen is limited in what he can say about participating in the show, “you would think most would feel a sense of surrealism,” he said.

He bought the business in 2018 and, other than a pop-up shop, has sold online. At one point, his business had become among the top online exclusive-furniture stores by SKU in the country, he said.

“However, 90 percent of my sales came from the five original vendors I had when I started the store,” he said. “I blew up during COVID and then dealt with a lot of fallout from various inflation/supply chain issues. I scaled back to my original five vendors and stopped trying to fund the business like I was a venture-backed startup, which led down a bad path,” he said.

Now, he said he’s “happy with the modest beer money the site provides,” and if scaling one day makes sense, he might try growing the store again. Otherwise, he’s focused on being a technology director for Combined Pool & Spa and his consulting business, Consultants in a Box.
