Restaurant Roundup: More cookies, date-night rodizio, patio specials

Cookie Co. has increased its weekly menu to six flavors instead of four. Every week, the new cookie shop near 69th and Cliff will have three weekly staples – chocolate chip, frosted sugar and gluten-free monster cookies — and three rotating flavors. This week, that’s Snickers, oatmeal chocolate chip and maple bacon.

The 406 Summer Fare menu is available at Mackenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub. Offerings this year are smoked trout dip, the huckleberry salad, Yellowstone flatbread with smoked trout, Harvest Cherry pizza, new Treasure State tacos with bison and the Big Sky bison burger. Dessert choices are huckleberry cheesecake and the Doc Holliday with white chocolate macadamia nut cookies served it a hot skillet with huckleberry ice cream and huckleberry sauce.

M.B. Haskett Delicatessen has added a Spuntini Social Hour from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Thursday and Friday. Enjoy wine specials and small bites.

The June burger at Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen comes with the advice of grabbing extra napkins. It features double patties of certified Angus beef, American cheese, fennel slaw, Kool-Aid pickles and burger sauce on a brioche bun of Look’s Bakehouse.

Looking for a date-night option? Carnaval Brazilian Grill has a special on Wednesdays. Get two rodizio services, two glasses of wine and a dessert to share for $100 per couple. Senior couples get a discounted price of $75.

Heart of the City Bakery has added gluten-free doughnuts to its lineup. They’re available every Saturday at the Falls Park Farmers Market in plain, chocolate, seasonal flavors and specials of the week.

On Father’s Day, dads can dine-in at Sickies Garage Burgers & Brews and get a free signature burger or entree up to $15.99 with the purchase of an item of equal or greater value. The signature burger features peppered bacon, a fried egg, pulled pork, barbecue sauce and American cheese, topped with onion rings and a splash of hot sauce.

For Father’s Day, dads can stop by First Stop Coffee Shop at 12th and Ellis for a half-priced coffee drink of their choice. The locally owned drive-up stand recently celebrated its first anniversary. New additions include outdoor seating and fresh-baked cinnamon and caramel rolls. It also serves breakfast burritos and English muffin sandwiches. Hours are 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sundays and 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

Summer patio season is underway at Shenanigans Sports Bar & Grill with live music from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday. Get half-priced drinks from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Calico Skies Vineyard & Winery near Canton has added Thirsty Thursdays to its lineup. Listen to live music from 5 to 8 p.m., eat wood-fired pizza and drink wine.

Zooks Coffee Bar and Squealer’s Smoke Shack in Tea are teaming up for Zooks After Dark from 6 to 11 p.m. Friday. They’ve created a special menu of Buzzed drinks with shots of alcohol.

Sanaa Abourezk, owner of Sanaa’s 8th Street Gourmet and a finalist for a regional chef award from the James Beard Foundation – which went to chefs from Madison, Wisconsin, during the ceremony earlier this month in Chicago – is hosting a small fundraising dinner Saturday night. The Italian meal will raise money to support farmers in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy that was devastated by flooding recently. Abourezk said she is making a couple of pasta dishes, salad, rosemary focaccia and a sweet bread with fig jam. The price is $15, but additional donations are welcome. The dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m., and reservations are required by calling the restaurant at 605-275-2516.

Tasty Treats Ice Cream Truck has new wheels. Jeremy and Brandy Fink started the seasonal business three years ago, using an old mail truck that had been turned into an ice cream truck. The new van has twice as much freezer space for packaged ice cream novelties. With the extra room, Tasty Treats will start carrying nostalgic candy like Super Ropes and Pixie Stix. The ice cream truck travels through neighborhoods once or twice a week and can be booked for public and private events. With a new vehicle, the hope is to extend travel to more towns in the Sioux Falls area, Brandy Fink said.

Billy Frogs Bar & Grill has a few menu additions and two specials. The bar at 57th and Marion has added a chicken bacon ranch pizza, meatloaf burger, fried mushrooms and jalapeno poppers. It also tweaked its chicken sandwich. From 3 to 10 p.m. Mondays, get a hand-pattied half-pound burger or cheeseburger with fries for $10. On Wednesdays during the same hours, get two tacos with chips and salsa for $7.

22Ten Kitchen Cocktails is celebrating summer with a special menu of Backyard BBQ Cocktails: the Blackberry Bramble, Smokey Margarita and Angus Collins. The 94 Mule is a nonalcoholic option.

Friday Trydays are happening at HoneyBaked Ham Co. Stop in from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Fridays through Aug. 18 to sample a different summer dish each time. Offerings include honey barbecue turkey sliders, barbecue baby back ribs and double cheddar mac-and-cheese.

Puppy-picked Leo’s Choice goes on tap Friday at Severance Brewing Co. The therapy dog in training for the Sioux Falls Police Department sniffed out the ingredients for the beer brewed in his honor. It’s a mango sour with pale ale malt. A portion of the sales will help pay for his care and basic needs.

Craft beers brewed by Covert Artisan Ales are available now in the Omaha area. They’re being tapped at bars and restaurants and sold in stores. It’s the first foray out of South Dakota for the brewery started by Dan and Stacey Berry four years ago.

WoodGrain Brewing Co. and Lupulin Brewing Co., which is based in Minnesota but has a brewery and taproom in Sioux Falls, won awards for their beer label designs and more. WoodGrain received a Platinum Crushie for Dad Schweater. The label was created by Lyndsey Kastein of LK Design Co. Lupulin received Global Crushies – the top award — for Opulent Octopus and Walking the Grapevine. Lupulin designer Marcus Paulsen also received three  Platinum Crushies and two golds.

The traveling food truck On the Hook Fish & Chips will be in Harrisburg on Saturday. The crew will be in the parking lot at Ace Hardware from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Correction to last week’s post on The Good Earth Farm’s pizza days: They’re Fridays and Sundays at the farm near Lennox. Diners can reserve a 12-inch Breadico crust in advance to ensure availability. Gluten-free and vegan offerings are available by pre-order at no extra charge. The farm usually posts the weekly pizza options on Wednesdays on its Facebook page.

Changes in hours, service

Kingbird Coffee in Brandon has extended its hours on Sundays and Mondays. It closes now at 5 p.m. instead of 1 p.m.
