Restaurant Roundup: MacKenzie’s new take-and-bake pizzas, return of all-you-can-eat sushi

June 24, 2021

MacKenzie River Pizza, Grill & Pub has added the option of getting its pizzas take-and-bake style. They come in one size – large – and original or thin crust, ranging in price from $15 to $21.75 depending on the toppings. Go traditional with cheese or pepperoni or be adventurous with something like the Reuben or Buffalo Wing. And if the debate on whether pineapple belongs on pizza isn’t enough, MacKenzie has two pizzas that include mandarin oranges: Thai Pie and Polynesian. And yes, there’s one with pineapple too: the Hot Hawaiian.

The all-you-can-eat sushi buffet is back at Lao Szechuan. The price is $16 for lunch and $24 for dinner. The restaurant, which opened two years ago, is in a retail center near Olive Garden on West 41st Street.

Granite City Food & Brewery is celebrating “all colors of the rainbow” with a themed brunch buffet from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. Dress in your favorite color from head to toe and get a 10 percent discount. Enjoy $5 drink specials that coordinate with each color of the rainbow.

Last week’s take-out service for Cluckin’ Good Chicken & BBQ was a sellout, so the business is planning to keep offering its limited menu every Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m. or until the food is gone. Cluckin’ at 10th and Bahnson switched to catering only a couple of months ago.

In a “what were you waiting for” move, Caribou Coffee has added doughnuts to its bakery offerings. Grab an original glazed or one with chocolate glaze. The new summer menu also is out with margarita mocktails, bubble teas and the Nitro Campfire Mocha.

The bartenders at JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars have crafted six special summer cocktails and creative names to go with them: Tucker Lives!, Pluto, Exactly One Hard Kiss, Mr. Bendo is Late for Easter, Sunshower and Abacaxi Old Fashioned.

Buffalo Ridge Brewing in Hartford has a new ownership mix. Co-founders Chris and Callie Tuschen have been joined by Rick and Lisa Warkenthien and David and Amy Larson, who bought out co-founders Damon and Krystal Sehr.

Rick Warkenthien has been with Buffalo Ridge since it opened in November 2018, working as a brewer, taproom server and assisting with graphic design and marketing needs. The Larsons are the owners of Dave & Company Real Estate Team.

A meet-the-owners celebration will be July 10 with live music and food.

Buffalo Ridge operates a 5-barrel brewhouse and has a 35-barrel brewing capacity. It has 18 tap lines that rotate a variety of house-made beers.

Buffalo Wild Wings is offering free delivery through the Fourth of July for orders placed through its website or app.

Here are a few summer vacation notes:

  • The downtown bakery Twisted Sisters Sweetz is closed through July 7.
  • Pinz, the bowling alley and restaurant in Dell Rapids, is closing for the season Sunday. Get specials on food to clear out the inventory and bowl for free after 4 p.m. It will reopen Sept. 7.
