Restaurant Roundup: Expanded lunch days, breakfast special, hot dog menu

JJ’s Bar has started offering lunch throughout the week – except for Sunday and Monday. The bar inside JJ’s Wine, Spirits & Cigars serves lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The lunch-only menu includes Italian Delight and pulled pork sandwiches, fish tacos, a seafood melt and Salad Nicoise. Some of the other items from the regular menu are available too, including all of the dips and sharables like chislic, loaded nachos and fries.

Happy hour at JJ’s Bar also has a few changes. Hours are 3 to 5 p.m. weekdays, 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Get $2 off draft beer, wines by the glass, and signature and seasonal cocktails. Get $3 off hot skillet dips and brisket nachos except on Sundays and Mondays when the kitchen is closed. On the weekend, customers also can get $6 bloody marys and mimosas.

Stop by soon for a spiked taste of spring. Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse has two limited-time cocktails featuring strawberry rhubarb syrup: the Rhubarb Mule with Glacial Lakes Vodka, lime juice and ginger beer, and Spring Fling with Glacial Lakes Vodka or Stony Point Gin, lemon juice and elderflower tonic.

The Original Pancake House has an additional early bird special for the rest of the month. From 6 to 8 a.m., buy an entree from the regular menu and get a second one for half-price.

Facing a trademark challenge from Taco Bell over its rights to “Taco Tuesday,” Taco John’s is offering the weekly special every day this month. The discount is available through its mobile app. Get two crispy or soft shell beef tacos for $2.

The Dawg Days of Summer have started at Crack’d Pot. The featured hot dog menu is served from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fridays.

The Patriot Cafe in the South Dakota Military Heritage Alliance has added a mini salad bar and hot dog station to its weekday lunch buffet. Each day, the buffet features a different entree with two sides and a soup. Rotating entrees include everything from baked and fried chicken to meatloaf and country fried steak. The buffet is served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with prices starting at $10.

Fridays on the Plaza kicks off this week at the 12th Street Plaza downtown. Food trucks will line up along First Avenue just east of Dakota News Now, which organizes the weekly event with live music. Hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The first week features ‘Brosia Bowl, Curbside Delights, Krazy Concessions, Let Me Be Frank and Salas Salsas.

Food trucks will start appearing every Wednesday night in Hartford at the X-IT 387 Plaza beginning next week. Hours for Food Truck Wednesdays are 5 to 8 p.m. Breaking Burrito and FadeAways will kick off the summertime event. Plaza tenant Doc Nik’s Flowers & Gifts will sell beer and wine. X-IT 387 Plaza is just north of Exit 387 for Interstate 90.

Look’s Marketplace is firing up the smokers and grills Sunday with the Summer Kickoff Backyard BBQ. For $75, diners will get a platter that can feed at least two,  loaded with one-third rack of ribs, brisket, pit sausage and a quarter smoked chicken, along with sides of Cowboy Caviar, broccoli salad, baked beans and two biscuits with hot honey butter. The meal comes with two pours of Look’s beer or wine. Drop in anytime from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tickets can be ordered here.

The summer Blizzard menu at Dairy Queen features two new creations: Oreo Brookie and Peanut Butter Puppy Chow. Returning favorites are Cotton Candy, S’mores and Choco-Dripped Strawberry.

Safari Bar & Grill in Renner has three new colorful cocktails for summer. Try the Juicy Mango or Pink Lemonade BeatBox Slushies or Tropical Mermaid Lemonade.

Golf Addiction has new drink specials for summer.

Changes in hours, service

  • Swamp Daddy’s Cajun Kitchen reopened May 20 after a kitchen fire May 11 forced it to close.
  • Josiah’s Coffeehouse, Cafe & Bakery is offering expanded hours for summer: It opens at 6:30 a.m. daily, closing at 3:30 p.m. Sunday through Tuesday and 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday. The patio also is open now.
  • Remedy at 611 is celebrating the arrival of summer by adding Sunday hours of 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The taproom in the brewery’s production facility at 611 N. West Ave. also is open from 4 to 10 p.m. Thursday, 4 p.m. to midnight Friday and noon to midnight Saturday.
  • Zoup has new hours for summer: 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.
  • Office Bar in Montrose has new hours for summer. It opens at 11 a.m. Tuesday through Saturday, closing at 9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, 10 p.m. Thursday and 2 a.m. Friday and Saturday. The kitchen closes an hour earlier Tuesday through Thursday and at 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
  • Phnom Penh Restaurant will be closed Saturday through Wednesday in honor of Memorial Day.
