New food truck features Polish, American favorites

Aug. 7, 2024

A new food truck in the Sioux Falls area this season is the creation of Polish immigrants.

Lukasz and Ewelina Bronikowski of Brandon have started Heavenly Food.

“The menu is pretty simple right now,” said Lukasz Bronikowski, who gave up being a truck driver to start the business.

His signature item is his “world famous” chicken burger. “I make my own patties out of ground thighs and bacon for the fat,” he said. “Another one is our burger. It’s a handmade patty with local, good-quality ground beef. And I’m making fresh-cut fries that are made to order.”

Bronikowski moved to the U.S. in 2000, and Ewelina came to the country in 2003. They met and later married. The couple moved to the Sioux Falls area in 2022 from Chicago because they didn’t want their children, now 9 and 6, to grow up there, they said.

As a nod to their former home, the menu includes a Chicago favorite, the Maxwell Street Polish, which is a Polish sausage served on a hot dog bun with grilled onions and yellow mustard.

Sometimes, Bronikowski also makes Chicago-style hot dogs with tomato, pickle, sport pepper, onion, sweet green pickle relish and yellow mustard. They also serve fresh-squeezed lemonade made with organic cane sugar that can be flavored with strawberry, raspberry or passion fruit syrups.

Honoring their Polish roots, the couple makes pierogies, which are dumplings stuffed with mashed potatoes and topped with bacon and onion. They’re part of the Polish Plate entree, which comes with a Polish sausage.

“This has been my husband’s dream,” Ewelina said. “He’s really good at it.”

Heavenly Food has been part of the monthly Split Rock Farmers Market in Garretson and does a few pop-ups every week at businesses in the area.
