Scooter’s will expand to Harrisburg

June 26, 2023

Scooter’s Coffee is headed to Harrisburg.

The national coffee retailer will build its kiosk/drive-thru model store along Willow Street and Creekside Avenue, near where Kwik Star just broke ground.

“We’re thrilled to be joining the Harrisburg community,” franchisee Travis Rhoades said. “There’s been amazing population growth over the past decade, but more recently there’s been amazing growth in business and retail growth, and we decided now is the right time to finally build in Harrisburg.”

Rhoades said he has been looking for a location in the community for more than two years “and decided what better spot than right in the middle of the community,” he said. “Willow Street has some new additions opening soon, and we’re excited to be part of that growth as well along the street.”

The site is in Signature Cos.’ Creekside development, which also includes a large town home project.

“As Harrisburg’s population approaches 10,000 people in the near future, along with a 10.5 percent annual growth rate, these types of retail offerings will follow,” said Marcus Mahlen of NAI Sioux Falls, who helped put the deal together for both the buyer and seller.

“The location selection was very strategic in between the core of Harrisburg, the high school and Minnesota Avenue. Travis and his team run an excellent business in the Sioux Falls metro and will be highly anticipated as the first coffee franchise to locate in Harrisburg.”

The target opening is in late spring or early summer of 2024. This will be the 11th Scooter’s in the Sioux Falls metro area.

Scooter’s also has broken ground in front of Fleet Farm at the Sanford Sports Complex. The hope is to open that location in early September, Rhoades said.
