Restaurant Roundup: Dive bar tour, new brunch, Maribella’s menu

Several dive bars are joining forces Saturday for a dive bar tour/poker run. Start and stop at any location, and turn in your poker sheet at your final stop. Draw an ace at any bar and win a free beer. Participating bars are Corner Pub, The Garage Bar, Gaslight Lounge, Hi-Ho Bar, JJ’s Billiards & Darts, Ken’s Korner and The Log Cabin. You can tour on your own or pay $35 to ride on a bus. Stop in soon at the Hi-Ho or The Log Cabin to reserve a seat.

Oh My Cupcakes is starting Besties Brunch events with two seatings every Saturday at the east-side location. The two-hour gathering includes fruits, meats, cheeses and sweets, with, of course, cupcakes. Choose “tipsy” with bottomless mimosas and wine-based sips for $65 or “temperance” with nonalcoholic drink options for $50. Seatings are at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. This first ones are this week. The bakery also has expanded its free delivery on Mondays to include Tuesday through Saturday this month. Locations must be within 8 miles of a cupcake kitchen.

The new Maribella Ristorante has opened in Washington Square at 360 S. Main Ave. Hours are 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The food, wine and handcrafted cocktail menus are posted at ciomaribella.com. With the opening, customers at Brix Wine Bar, which is also at Washington Square, also can order from Maribella’s menu.

A customer favorite at Bread & Circus Sandwich Kitchen is back for the frigid season. This year’s ramen is a Sapporo broth with Chashu pork belly, shrimp, bamboo shoots, corn, soy egg, butter and green onion. Other new items include an open-face hot beef sandwich, SoDak Burger featuring grass-fed Black Angus beef from Dakota Grasslands and Korean BBQ Spicy Noodles.

Starting Tuesday, Papa Woody’s Wood Fired Pizza is bringing back a seasonal favorite. The Gobbler starts with your choice of crust and is loaded with mashed potatoes and gravy, pulled turkey, sweet corn, stuffing and more turkey gravy. It’s topped with cheddar cheese and cranberry sauce. Last year’s version is shown here without the cranberry sauce.

Here’s the return of another customer favorite. Poppy’s Popcorn Co. is serving up its Movie Night Special for Fridays and Saturdays for this weekend and probably a couple after that. Get a large bag of caramel popcorn and large bag of cheddar for $10 or extra large bag for $15.

New limited-time menu items have arrived from The Saucy Boyz at Remedy Brewing Co. Remedy’s Not Yet Famous Bowl has mashed potatoes, popcorn chicken, corn, housemade gravy and a shredded cheese blend. The P.O.P. Flatbread has sundried tomato pesto, Kalamata olives, prosciutto, mozzarella, arugula and basil oil. Hank’s Dank Burrito comes with a choice of house-smoked pork or vegan chorizo. Don’t want the tortilla? Have it in a bowl. The grilled cheese sandwich has American, pepper jack and provolone on sourdough and comes with curry ketchup.

Chef Lance’s on Phillips has an appetizer and two entrees on the November feature menu. Get four handmade jumbo ravioli stuffed with ricotta, mozzarella and Parmesan cheese with a red pepper marinara and fresh basil. The entrees are Tuscany chicken, which are fried thighs with mashed potatoes and a sundried tomato and caper cream sauce, and Cajun steak and shrimp with a 6-ounce beef tenderloin and jumbo shrimp with blistered tomatoes and Cajun butter on a bed of mashed potatoes.

Chef Omar Thornton is having a pop-up jambalaya feed at Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday. He’ll have spicy sausage, chicken, shrimp, rice and more in the dish. Tickets are $15. Pre-orders are available here, or pay with cash that day.

Rudy M. Navarrete’s Tex-Mex Catering has a new addition to its rotating spots for winter. Staring this week, it will be at Blind Butcher Brewing Co. near Inwood, Iowa, from 5 to 8 p.m. on the second and fourth Fridays of the month. Navarrete offers his Rudy’s Taco Bus menu. The brewery at 2167 Buchanan Ave. serves its beers through a tap system where customers pay by the ounce. It also has a liquor license.

Settle in and watch football at Let It Fly and enjoy the pre-game platter special every Saturday and Sunday. Get two chicken tenders, four mac-and-cheese bites, four mozzarella sticks and four jalapeno poppers for $14. Traditional wings also are available for $1 a wing.

Sweet Cheeks has added ice cream cakes to its lineup. Several flavors are available daily for pickup, or customers can create custom orders with favorite flavors and toppings.

Chef April opens east-side event venue

Kabab King has changed the special it’s offering through the end of the year. Buy two menu items and get one free on weekdays. The BOGO sandwich offerings on Tuesdays and BOGO platters on Thursday are no longer available.

TJz Bar & Restaurant in Colton has new weekly specials and a few additional menu items: savory and sweet soft pretzel bites, chocolaty funnel cake fries and a grilled cheese quesadilla.

Sinless Sweets is offering an “adopt a grandparent” special for World Kindness Day on Sunday. Purchase cookies by Friday evening, and they’ll be delivered to the Avera Prince of Peace Retirement Community on Sunday. Buy a single cookie, a half-dozen or more. Owner Maggy Pickner will make sure all 200 residents receive a treat.

Buffalo Ridge Brewing Co. in Hartford is hosting a blood drive Tuesday for the Community Blood Bank. Donate a pint of blood and get a pint of beer. Changes in hours, service

  • Falls Overlook Cafe will be open for lunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Sunday and then will be closed for a week to prep for the Winter Wonderland kickoff at Falls Park. From Nov. 18 through Jan. 31, hours will be 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The cafe will offer a full menu, along with warm beverages, beer, wine and ice cream.
  • Reminder that Saturday is the final day for Miner Brewing Co. and Prairie Berry Winery Taproom. The business on the south side of the Western Mall posted today that its shelves are restocked and the tap lines are full.
  • Harrisburgers in Harrisburg is no longer open in the evening. Hours are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
  • T-Juanita Street Food and Cheladas is coping with a staffing shortage and will no longer be open on Mondays “until further notice.” Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday, and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
  • New fall and winter hours have started at Glacial Lakes Distillery & Brewhouse: 3 to 9 p.m. Monday, 3 to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, 2 p.m. to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday.
