Restaurant Roundup: Cupcake-cookie mashups, return of wraps

Mary’s Mountain Cookies and Oh My Cupcakes are collaborating in August on a cookie-cupcake mashup. Each week will feature a different flavor. Kicking off the Cupcake Crush Collection will be Cinna Crush with a snickerdoodle cupcake and cookie. The creations will be available at both Oh My Cupcakes locations and the Cliff Avenue site for Mary’s Mountain Cookies.

Wraps are back on the menu at Krav’n, along with several new items. In addition to Asian Chicken Lettuce Wraps, there are three new choices: Buffalo Chicken, Chicken Bacon Ranch and Chicken Caesar. Other additions include the Buffalo 2.0 salad with crispy or grilled chicken, pot stickers, birria sliders, loaded chicken torta, smashburger sliders and Cajun pasta with grilled chicken, smoked sausage, red and green peppers and onion in a creamy Cajun sauce with cavatappi noodles.

Step into a speakeasy this weekend with Jack Rose Social Club’s transformation into Jack’s Hideaway. Prohibition-era cocktails will be offered along with chef specials and live music from Ken Joyne on Friday and Raine and Big Daddy on Saturday. Diners are encouraged to wear “Gatsby glam” or “gangster garb.”

The special at Myrtle’s Fur Vault & Bar on sangria and nachos has been extended to every day instead of just three days a week and now includes another drink option. Get a margarita or Catalan-style sangria with a half-order of nachos for $20. Myrtle’s opens at 4 every night but is closed on Sundays.

La Playita Mexican Seafood has added weekday specials. Fajita & Margarita Monday offers chicken fajitas for $15, steak for $18 and margaritas for $5. The Tasty Tuesday/Taco Tuesday special is 1 pound of crab legs, corn and potatoes for $25, and a variety of tacos for $3 each Seafood Boil Wednesday specials are shown in the photo below, and Thirsty Thursday features 32-ounce margaritas for $10, micheladas for $7, and aguachile and a bucket of beer or four micheladas for $40. Let Me Be Frank has updated its menu to include the new Carolina Dog and lower prices on its Classic and Chili dogs.

The Carolina Dog is topped with chili, tangy Carolina-style coleslaw, onions and yellow mustard. Find locations for the food stand on Street Food Finder.

Chef Lance’s on Phillips has a new featured menu for August with a la carte pricing. The peach crisp is featured in the photo at the top of the article.

Poppy’s Popcorn Co. has two new flavors, a returning favorite and one still in the test kitchen. Root Beer Float is sugar-coated popcorn with root beer flavoring, topped off with a white chocolate drizzle, and Zebra Corn is caramel corn with a milk chocolate and white chocolate drizzle. Lemon Pound Cake is sugar-coated popcorn with lemon flavoring, finished with a white chocolate drizzle. Samples of each are available to try, and the flavors will be around through August and possibly longer. Popcorn that tastes like German chocolate cake is still coming.

Fans of Takis might want to try the new Takis Fuego Sandwich at Wendy’s. A spicy chicken filet is topped with chopped Takis Fuego chips, cheddar cheese sauce, a creamy corn spread and chili lime sauce. And the latest Frosty Fusion flavors are Oreo Brownie, Pop-Tarts Strawberry and Caramel Crunch.

The limited-time Delicious Duos options at Noodles & Company pair a small entree and a side, with prices starting at $10.

Olive Garden has a new limited-time entree: Calabrian Steak and Shrimp Bucatini. The dish features a spicy cream sauce, along with spinach and tomatoes. It’s available through Aug. 25. The restaurant also added Spicy Three-Meat Sauce as an option on the Create Your Own Pasta menu. It has cherry and red bell peppers, pepperoni, red wine, garlic, chili flakes and classic meat sauce.

Famous Dave’s has a limited-time menu of Backyard Burgers. Offerings include Jalapeno Popper, Famous Meat Lover’s, Black and Bleu, Hawaiian BBQ and the All-American. New loaded fries are topped with cheddar cheese sauce, bacon, fried jalapenos and sour cream.

Polar Bites added parfaits to the menu recently and will feature new flavors next week, starting on Monday. Each day will be a different one. Check the frozen treat stand’s Facebook page for the lineup.

A&W is celebrating National Root Beer Float Day on Wednesday with free small root beer floats from 2 to 8 p.m. Buy a $10 collector’s mug and all proceeds will go to the DAV to help disabled veterans. Last year’s effort raised $100,000 nationwide.

Severance Brewing Co. is releasing four new beers for its sixth anniversary party Saturday. Try the fruited gose Re-Berried Inhibitions, hazy IPA Cascade Cougar, amber ale PBC Uprising with peanut butter and salted caramel on nitro and West Coast IPA Narwhals Wear Cashmere. The party goes from noon to 11 p.m.

Check out the summer drink menus at both locations of The Attic Bar & Grill and The Gruff Plate + Pours in Brandon. The east-side Attic drinks are Malibu Pina Toreada, Kick in the A** Coffee, Lemon Meringue Pie-Tini and Spicy A** Paloma.

The west-side location is featuring Cranberry St. Germaine, Old A** Friend, Salty Cowboy, Prairie Sky and Arnold Palmer Mule.

Roots of Brasil has a few new wine-based cocktails and mocktails for summer to add to its regular lineup. Tiramisu has flavors of espresso and horchata; the Por Do Sol is champagne, orange and pineapple juices and grenadine; and there’s a mead belini. Coconut Milk Limeade is a new mocktail.

Buddies & Co. in Brandon has new coffee and lemonade flights. Get four 6-ounce specialty iced coffees or lemonades for $12. Coffee drink flavors are toasted marshmallow, vanilla, caramel vanilla and vanilla sweet cream. Lemonade flavors are strawberry tart, blueberry, Peachy-O Buzzed and huckleberry.

The Human Bean is featuring root beer drinks until Sept. 2. Cowboy Cold Brew features root beer-flavored cold foam, Root Beer Rodeo Smoothie is root beer soda over a vanilla smoothie, and Rootin’ Tootin’ Dirty Soda is sparkling water and root beer syrup on ice with a splash of cream.

Heading into giant territory, Dunn Brothers Coffee has added another size for its drinks. Extra large is 32 ounces. The coffee shop also has new shaken drinks. Try the iced coconut shaken espresso or the iced salted caramel shaken cold brew.

Changes in hours, service

  • Daily Clean Food & Drink will return to regular hours next week as summer staff members start heading back to school. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
  • JJ’s Billiards & Darts will be closed for remodeling beginning Monday. The bar hopes to be reopened partially on Aug. 9 for TOC dart tournament qualifiers with a grand reopening celebration Aug. 10.
  • The new, locally owned Voodoo Coffee Shop at 1033 N. Minnesota Ave. now has an app for online orders. Get 50 percent off your first in-app order.
  • The Human Bean has added delivery through DoorDash and Uber Eats.
