Restaurant Roundup: New breakfast sandwiches, grilled baby octopus, happy hours

Aug. 17, 2023

Coffea Roasterie serves pastries and now there are two breakfast sandwiches on housemade biscuits. Egg & Cheese is egg and cheddar cheese topped with greens and sun-dried tomato aioli on a homemade biscuit. Egg & Chorizo also has greens and chipotle aioli on a homemade biscuit. They’re made with locally sourced ingredients, including items from Fruit of the Coop, Stensland Family Farms and The L3 Co. The sandwiches are available daily at all three cafes until they’re sold out.

Maribella Ristorante’s August features include a dish you likely can’t find anywhere else in Sioux Falls. The entrée is folpetti con risotto nero, which is grilled baby octopus topped with Italian salsa verde and served with squid ink risotto. The starter is amarone arancini, which are risotto cakes with red wine that are lightly fried and served with a balsamic and fig reduction. For dessert, there’s fregolotta, an Italian crumb cookie with chocolate chips, spinkled with powdered sugar.

Let It Fly has a new dessert menu. Choices include creme brulee with vanilla wafers; vanilla panna cotta with fresh berries; New York-style cheesecake fresh strawberries, chocolate syrup or caramel syrup; and chocolate torte cake.

With what’s hopefully the last blast of summer heat on its way, The Boozy Bakery has started making ice cream again until the end of September. Flavors change, but you’ll find boozy options like Peach Bellini, Mudslide With Brownie and Bourbon Caramel Cake and nonboozy ones like Lemon Bar and Cosmic Brownie.

Red Robin Gourmet Burgers & Brews has new happy hour specials that run from 3 to 6 p.m. weekdays. Here’s what you’ll find:

For the rest of the month, Crisp & Green is offering a happy hour special. From 2 to 5 p.m. daily, buy an acai bowl or smoothie and get one another one free.

Look’s Marketplace is celebrating summer with a Back Patio Shrimp Boil. The boil will have shrimp, sausage, potato and corn. The $50 ticket includes a beer or glass of wine. Serving is from 3 to 7 p.m. Get tickets here.

Chief’s Bloody Mary Mix, which originated at Waddy’s Bar & Grill in Hudson, took second place in the packaged products category at The Bloody Mary Festival in Milwaukee.

Changes in hours, service

  • Stensland Family Farms has closed its west-side location until spring. The central and east locations remain open.
  • Polar Bites is closing its 41st Street stand for the season next week. Saturday, Aug. 26, is the final day. Fortunately for fans, the frozen treats are available year-round at the brick-and-mortar location at 401 E. Eighth St.
  • The Dive has added Sunday hours. It’s open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and closing time likely will extend once NFL football begins its regular season. Happy hour prices are offered all today: $3 domestic beers, $4 craft beers and $5 taps. Weekday happy hours are 2 to 6 p.m. Other hours for the kitchen are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The restaurant typically stays open one hour after the kitchen closes.
  • Charlie’s Pizza House has switched to fall hours: 5 to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 4 to 10 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
