A small game business that started with a 300-square-foot store in Parker has become a two-location business in Sioux Falls with a 3,000 square-foot site.

Turbulent Games, founded by Keegan Batson and Russell Carlson in 2019, is at 5010 S. Marion Road.

“When we moved to Sioux Falls in 2022, we rented out our previous location in Parker to another up-and-coming game store,” Batson said. “We bought Haven Gaming after two years and are now combined.”

The business partners bought Haven in January and have been transitioning that store into a second Turbulent Games location. The east-side storefront will open soon at 1914 S. Sycamore Ave.

“Our focus on customer experience has helped us build that community,” Batson said. “We want to be the place you go to grow your gaming hobby, which is why we provide a space to play, events and really try to accommodate our customers’ wants and needs.”

Turbulent Games offers events almost every night, Batson said. The store hosts regular weekly league play, store champion events and regional qualifiers.

“The games we play range from miniature tabletop to trading card and board games,” Batson said. “And, because of our official status with most of the industry leaders like Asmodee, Bandai, Games Workshop, Ravensburger and Wizards of the Coast, all of our events and tournaments are sanctioned.”

Batson said  customers have been very supportive and have inspired the need to expand the hobby space.

“We plan to do that by opening this second location catering to trading cards and board games,” Batson said. “Then, we want to expand our current location so our miniature and role-playing gamers have more space for more events.”
