Mike McKelvey

The Dakota State University Foundation has hired Mike McKelvey as CEO and vice president of institutional advancement. For more than 25 years, McKelvey has worked with major research universities and small public universities, holding senior-level positions such as chief philanthropic officer, director of principal gifts and executive director of advancement. He joined Southern Oregon University’s philanthropic team in 2019 and most recently served as director of principal gifts. He also is the principal and founder at Cascades Community Investments, which serves nonprofits and institutions. He will begin his duties at DSU in late May.

Paulson graduated from DSU with his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in 2008 and 2009. Melanie Carpenter, a shareholder with Woods, Fuller, Shultz & Smith, has become a fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. Fellowship in the legal association is extended by invitation to experienced trial lawyers of diverse backgrounds who have mastered the art of advocacy and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, civility and collegiality. Children’s Home Society of South Dakota has added two staff members in leadership roles.

Clinton Hubers

Malia Holbeck

Malia Holbeck is the clinical director of care, a new position, and will lead outpatient therapy services. She previously worked at Avera Behavioral Health, where she spent 10 years in various leadership roles, most recently serving as director of inpatient and outpatient care and addiction therapy.

Clinton Hubers is the director of facilities. He has more than 20 years of experience and most recently served as regional vice president of facilities for a property management company.

South Dakota Symphony Orchestra

Nicholas Sharma

Nicholas Sharma has been named as the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra assistant conductor and South Dakota Symphony Youth Orchestra music director beginning in the 2024-25 season. Sharma, who also is a violinist, has worked for several orchestras, including the New World Symphony Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra. He has also served as music director for the New Horizons Community Orchestra in Rochester, served on the violin faculty at the Bronx Conservatory of Music and has conducted many youth orchestras, most recently the Eugene Springfield Youth Orchestra.
