Gift shop to close

Dec. 18, 2018

A gift and home decor shop in Brandon is closing its doors.

The final day in business for The 1948 Trading Company is Dec. 31.

Owner Matt Jorgenson said business is too slow to keep the store on Splitrock Boulevard open.

“It was going great for a couple of years, and then business just waned. … We just could not get the foot traffic to sustain the business.”

Merchandise, excluding commission items, has been marked at 50 percent off. The store will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Jorgenson bought the business five years ago from Steve and Diane Thompson, who started it in 2002. He also owns Rehfeld’s Art & Framing in downtown Sioux Falls. “I will just continue to focus on that.”

Jorgenson’s wife, Holly, and her daughter and future daughter-in-law have been selling Intoxibakes and Grandma’s Pantry baked goods at The 1948 Trading Company. While the women finalize plans for a storefront in Sioux Falls, customers will be able to order the alcohol-infused cupcakes online at intoxibakessd.com. They can call Intoxibakes to order Grandma’s Pantry items.
